Missouri Numismatic Society Show Report.
I left home early Wednesday for the MNS show in Saint Charles, Missouri. After a little road construction, a little rain and one stop for gas I arrived in the Saint Charles area about 4PM. I checked into my hotel and had dinner that my wife had packed for me in a cooler.
I have been going to this show for about a decade. It is a very nice convention center with plenty of free parking. At the noon show opening I would guess that there was only about a third of a normal crowd waiting to enter. I decided to change my first round pass and go up the middle aisle instead of turning right like I usually do. I soon ran into Grant Campbell. He is the President of the Blue Ridge Numismatic Association. I asked him about the BRNA show in late August in Dalton, Georgia. He said that as of now the show is a go ,but the situation is changing daily. I hope the show takes place. While at his table I looked at a $2.5 Gold piece. It was ok, but I was hoping to find a little higher grade so I passed.
I saw a very nice 1795 Plain edge Large Cent in PCGS 63 BN. Also saw a 1904 $20 PCGS 60 with a CAC sticker in a Doily holder priced at $2300. The $20 had very nice luster and I was surprised that it did not have a gold CAC sticker.
I had brought along a few things to sell. I had some gold jewelry that had been sitting in the back of the lock box for decades. I had gotten a quote from a jewelry store in my area before I left home. It was a low ball offer. I sold them at the show for almost double the price I had been quoted at the store at home. I also sold a 1950 Proof set. The Half Dollar was a little cloudy. I sold it for a little more than I had expected.
I took a look at about a half dozen lots in the Scotsman Auction. I only looked at some gold lots. Their photos and descriptions are very good.
Some bullion prices for Ricko: 2020 Eagles for $29, 10 Oz Silver bars for $260, low grade Morgan or Peace $ for $22, XF Morgans for $25, AU Peace $ for $23. Also saw an old 100 OZ Englehard Silver bar for $2800!
I finished my first pass and soon started on a second pass of the floor. There was business being done but there was not a buzz in the room.
I really did not see anything that is on my want list or anything that I could not live without. I stopped at a supply dealer in the lobby on my way out of the show and bought a 2021 Red book to keep my complete set up to date. He said that he was having a pretty good show.
Friday night I went to the Scotsman auction. The gold coins that I was interested in went for a little above where I would have been comfortably.
I drove home on Saturday morning. It was great to be back to a show even if I did not buy anything. Can't wait till the next one!

Thanks, good report. Good to see a show report, finally.
Yes or no on masks?
@golden....Thanks for a great show report... and the information on bullion. One question, you quoted "2020 Eagles for $29,"... Does that mean $29 over spot? Thanks again for an excellent report. Cheers, RickO

Thanks for posting that...I've been jonesing for a coin show for a good while now. You mentioned that public attendance was low, but how about dealer attendance? Were the tables laid out normally or spaced further apart? Were people on the bourse being cautious about social distancing?
Early American Copper, Bust and Seated.
Most dealers and collectors were wearing masks. One dealer had two large hand written signs saying " No mask, No service, No exceptions ". There were some collectors and dealers that had no masks and acted like things were normal.
2020 Eagles were for sale at $29 on Thursday.
The program listed dealers from 27 states including from California, Arizona, Washington and New Jersey. This show has always had a larger number of dealers that are no shows than any show that I have attended. There are usually 6-10 no shows. I counted about 8 no shows this time. So that is normal for the show. The bourse seemed to be arranged normally.
Something to read that's good for a change like a show
