Could some one tell me what is wrong with this penny?

    It appears to have what's called a lamination error where some of the material is peeling away.

    At least that's what I think I see from the picture.

    Most definitely an error of the lamination type. And a nice one at that.

    @ddi .... Welcome aboard.... As the previous posts have stated... It is called a lamination .... To be accurate (no negative aspersion intended) technically, it is a de-lamination since the material is separating. However, the common terminology is as stated. Cheers, RickO
