I strayed...for sentimental reasons

When I was very young, probably 9 or 10 years old, my grandfather gave me a 1926-S Peace Dollar and my grandmother gave me an 1878-CC Morgan Dollar. Those coins started me on my collecting journey. I sold both coins when I sold my collection 6 or 7 years later. I probably wanted money for guitars or amps or girls...or I probably thought if I had a guitar and an amp, I could get a girl. But since then, when I see examples of those coins I think back with fond memories.
So when this one came up for sale, I couldn't resist. I don't collect Morgans. I do collect coins that make me smile. This one makes me smile.

Nice sentiments, and a beautiful Morgan! Tremendous eye appeal for a 63.
Good for you. The sentimental coins add a lot of flavor to the collection. I know mine do.
Great look to that coin.
Very nice looking!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
She's quite the looker, congrats on the addition.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Good story and a nice coin!
A very nice distraction and example. As for the grade, I think I disagree by today's standards.

I've never really been interested in silver dollars. That said, I have do a VG 1928 Peace Dollar that my Uncle Jim gave me in about 1968. He drove out from MN on vacation, and got it in change, somewhere in MT. I still have it, and I'd never sell it for any reason. Junk silver to anyone else...priceless to me!

Nice!
+1
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
Sometimes we gotta do it. It's all good
I like strays.
Great story! Wow, I thought you were going to tell us that the 1878CC Morgan you picked up was the actual SAME coin your grandmother gave you! Lol. Nice pick up regardless.

It is ok to stray sometimes, so long as you remember where you're going.

One of the cool things about life is that we can recognize the errors of our ways (not having silver dollars) and correct them (pick up a nice dollar, especially a nice Peace dollar!).
In all seriousness, gorgeous Morgan.
Looks as if you finally got a girl. Nice looking one too.
Nice acquisition... especially since, every time you look at it, you will think of your Grand Mother....Tying coins to family and notable life events is a good thing (i.e. births, marriages etc.). Another interesting part of coin collecting. Cheers, RickO
Congrats on the purchase. It's certainly a twist on the gift as a child coin, but i like it. It's great that you still remember the dates!
Very nice, I would have thought a 64.
In VG the 28 is the best one to have. Far from junk silver and pretty amazing that it came from change.
Collector, occasional seller
I probably thought if I had a guitar and an amp, I could get a girl.
if this had a Poll attached I'd bet this would get all the votes!! looks like a CRO purchase.
Very nice!

Nice choice!
I'm sure you're on the lookout for a sweet '26-S to get grandma and grandpa back together.
