I think you are right. Looks more like it in the image than with eye.

Yes. Time to get out the coin dip to conserve it.

I'm tempted to crack it out and do just that.

I was kidding. Don't throw away the cost of the slab.

Definitely an old print.... with accumulated crud. Even if you try to remove it, there will be remaining etched surface. Been there too long....Cheers, RickO

My coin dealer friend sez, to remove a fingerprint (at least attempt) one can very carefully dip a Q-tip in water, than dip the Q-tip in Ezest. Than very slowly roll the fingerprint with the Q-tip. Just the print, not any other area or other side of coin. Than finally, rinse with warm water and pat dry. Maybe? ;)

Coin was cracked out of a PCI MS63 holder. I dipped it. :o Sent it to PCGS. Here's the coin:

More lustre than the image. Any guesses?

I'd think MS64, give or take a point depending on actual appearance in hand.

That will work on a relatively fresh finger print. [DON'T DO IT on proof or proof-like surfaces.] It won't really solve the problem for an old print like that. You can lighten up or remove the toning but you will be left with luster breaks on the surface.

    That turned out very nice.
I have coins in rattler slabs with the old toned finger prints, but I really don't want to break them out.

What if it's Jimmy Hoffas fingerprint? Could be very valuable. Merry Christmas all. Peace Roy

I recognize that print. It’s Marilyn Monroe’s. She forgot to wash her hands after going to the bathroom.

Luster shows well now. Assessment and conservation done well but was it worth it ?
