Just ran across this gold struck through plastic error and immediately thought this is the kind of coin @ErrorsOnCoins would love!
I found it interesting that there's no year on the slab insert.

Awesome coin!
I like how the 1996 is struck through plastic and the 1851 is struck through wire.
The coins are the signs of their times as plastic was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland with Bakelite.
Real nice error coin.
Did a shark get @ErrorsOnCoins while he was fishing? I haven't seen him post in awhile.
Very cool. This is a more dramatic error than you usually see.
Very interesting error... I should look at the reverse of my proof gold from the mint... usually just checked to be sure there was a coin in there... Cheers, RickO
This was one of my favorite gold errors I found in the wild. Repunched dies PLUS obverse and reverse errors!
What is "Plast" ?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Nice I like
The OP coin, may or may not have been struck through plastic. Is there anything that is retained on the coin to confirm that it is plastic? Just because there have been many silver and gold struck through plastic errors, does not make that true for this particular one, even if it is the most likely.
The below coin looks more like it was struck through a fragment of reeding, rather than wire.
you beat me to it! +1
neat gold nerrors

Nice gold errors!
Agree. It does look that way. That makes it even cooler to me!
Here is a neat strike through on the reverse of this High Relief
Love those lams.
Finally, a gold eagle with a reverse I like
Nice strike thru on the 1 ounce eagle. The large pieces like that always look nice.
It was struck thru a piece of plastic, and frequently you'll see them with a part of all of the plastic retained ("frequently" meaning they show up from time to time), which is why even though it appears the plastic is missing on this example, you can tell that's what it was struck thru.
The OP coin does look like struck-through plastic.
I've seen it happen with my own eyes
And the 1851-O $20 does look like it was struck through a length of rim fin that separated from a previous coin.
Very nice, thank you all for sharing !!! 👍
