Never thought I would ever own this nice a looking Hank Aaron rookie.

JBrulesJBrules Posts: 2,116 ✭✭✭✭✭

I came across this Aaron rookie listed on Ebay a couple of days ago. It had just listed so I was able to make deal with the seller before someone else got involved. This card looks like a PSA 8 on first glance. Just a great card for grade. The card is graded appropriately as there is a spider wrinkle on the top starting on the second letter A in his last name. Overall just a stunner of a card for the grade.

That is great. I had an opportunity to buy a 5 at a show last month that did not present nearly as well as this one. The owner would not move one penny on his price and in the long run I am glad I walked away. It freed up cash to make another purchase later that week that I have had more fun going through. Congrats. Incredible card, and I am very jealous.

    That's quite a beauty!

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Gorgeous card!!! I own this card in a 7 so before I looked at the grade I made sure to scroll down past your comments and past the flip and see if I could guess the grade--corners and centering looked great so I said to myself it's got to be at least a 7 (it looks better than my 7 centering wise) or a 7.5, possibly an 8. Then I scrolled back up to the flip and was like "WTF!!! A 4 .5?!?!?!"😲😳I obviously figured I must've missed something minuscule and read your comments where you mention the spider wrinkle--yeah I can just make it out in your scan but you know, who cares?!?! I would probably (notice I didn't say definitely lol?!?!) take this one over my 7 six days out of seven (so not every day but almost)--congrats on acquiring a beautiful card!!

While I am sure the grade is technically correct, I have never understood why PSA downgrades so harshly for a simple surface wrinkle. Those are the kinds of cards collectors drool over.

Geez Louise! Nice card you got yourself there. I have a 4.5 as well.

Yes this 100%. Give me ALL the spider wrinkled iconic cards, please!

If i were the grader, the "spider wrinkle" would not have lowered it below a 6.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I am with several other folks in that it looks undergraded to me. I understand about the small crease, but that overall eye appeal is spectacular to me.

Oh wow! That looks amazing! I had a similar type of purchase a few months ago where I picked up a card that looked awesome for the assigned grade. Do we have a thread here for "Showcase your cards that look better than the assigned grade"? Congrats on the Aaron!

I wouldn't slash a grade for such a tiny wrinkle like that. If it traverses half the card and looks like a bolt of lightning then sure. But that thing is TINY. Ahhhhh the grading process giveth and taketh away.
