1965 MS66 Cam Jefferson Nickel Non-SMS

I’m hoping someone can help me with this.
I have a PCGS 1965 MS66 CAM Jefferson Nickel that is not an SMS. Does this seem right? Are circulation strikes be CAM?

It’s definitely SMS notwithstanding any label confusion.

Could this be a label error? Should be SMS66CAM?

And to answer your question, prooflike business strikes some times exhibit cameo contrast although historically neither PCGS nor NGC has designated the coins as such.

I think the SP designation is more recent than that holder. It should say SMS under the grade but looks like they missed that.
Now they are kind of redundant using SP designation and stating SMS.

I've seen some odd PL designations, or at least one I'm not used to, like a Mercury dime that's MS6(?)PL. I haven't seen cameo listed before, though (but I'm sure my experience is a mere fraction of many on here).

If the CAM designation was intentional, the coin was thought to be an SMS example, not a circulation strike. Either way, it's a labeling error of some sort.

Could this be a label error? Should be PR66CAM?

only during the past 5-10 years has PCGS changed and started referring to SMS issues with the "SP" prefix. before that they were labeled as "MS" and had never been called Proof. the OP coin is clearly in an older PCGS capsule from 2000-2005 prior to the change, they simply forgot to put "SMS" on the insert.

A call to customer service and a re-submission would likely get the issue resolved quickly. Cheers, RickO

Regardless of the labeling, that's a beauty of a coin! B)
