Happy 4th of July from Waterrock Knob!

ashelandasheland Posts: 23,404 ✭✭✭✭✭

I’m sitting in my car up here as I write this.
I just wanted to take a relaxing ride today on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I’m up at Waterrock Knob between Balsam and Maggie Valley, NC.

The view up here is incredible.
These pictures are looking towards Balsam:

This picture is from the ride up, almost there

Then the view when I got up here:
literally in a cloud

The same spot exactly five minutes later:

And one more ;)

Nice pictures. I drove the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway back about 1985. Great scenery.

Get some sourwood honey if you see a stand by the side of the road!

God’s country. Surprising how many people retire to Florida, don’t like it, and re retire to the NC mountains.

Nice, my mom is in western NC and I normally take my kids up to visit every year. We check out the water falls etc. Good times! Not going this year though...just avoiding any unnecessary trips anywhere and sheltering in place.

Great pictures of a beautiful area.... I like mountain areas, and have hiked and hunted mountains on both coasts and in between. Cheers, RickO

Looks like it keeps your mind cool.

  • New to the forum but happy 4th from MD. Think this is the full buck moon? Not completely happy with the photo; the moon looked super orange just above the horizon but it disappeared behind clouds (it’s just starting to in this one) before I got my camera settings sorted. When it came back above the clouds it was no longer orange and didn’t seem worth shooting further. Don’t mean to derail the thread but operating under the assumption that pics are always welcome.

    Beautiful pics.
Looks like you had your head in the clouds there @asheland
My late brother used to tell me about his motorcycle rides up along Blue Ridge Parkway and I'd love to go there.

It’s as cool as can be up there. Like another world. Often at some of the overlooks it’s absolutely silent. Quite the place to visit if you’re in the area!
    :)
