1868 Shield Nickel Repunched Date
![hyf88](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/926/nJ77VRQDG41SA.jpeg)
This was a recent purchase that arrived safely last week. Looks to be the type II-B reverse and has a nice repunched date as well. Might even have a touch of very minor doubling on the annulet as well.
Has a few contact scratches and marks. I couldn't find the Fletcher number for this one.

nice example. i've purchased more than a few shield nickel rpd/ddo etc.
you've pegged down the rev. broken C, S to start?
Nice!
Very cool variety.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
You will find that there are many minor varieties that are not in the Fletcher book. In the early years of Shield Nickel mintage the dies only lasted for about 15,000 strikes. There were many, many dies used and many of those had minor varieties of one sort or another.
It is fun to hunt for the varieties but don't start paying premiums for them.
Cool RPD.
Yep, agree with #291fifth

As Lance noted, the reverse is stage L3, with broken C and S of CENTS.

There are seven RPD varieties of the 1868 reverse (S2-3xxxx) listed on the 2016 version of Howard's Variety Population page,
but unfortunately he does not have online photos for them.

The NGC Variety Plus page lists S2-3010, S2-3012 and S2-3015, so perhaps the list has been expanded
considerably since the 2016 version.

I like it !!!![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Nice pick-up with so many interesting characteristics. Only 15K per die is not very many nickels. Peace Roy
