ANA Chat with Bill Fivaz

Not sure if this has been posted here, since it was published by the ANA in March but a quick search of the name Bill Fivaz did not show it. I have met him and emailed with him a few times. He has certainly been a strong resource in the numismatic community for a very long time. Here is a 50+ Minute long video that the ANA did with him...

Had a couple brief encounters with Mr Bill Fivas. The first, late 1990's, congratulated him on his great Jefferson nickel collection he sold/auctioned through the Ramapaugh Trading company. Let him know that I had one of his 1968-D's, he had two. He asked, "did you get the MS65 coin? I responded, "no, the MS64. He replied, "that was a good coin too! The 2nd time was during the 2005 FUN show in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

The 'United States Gold Counterfeit Detection Guide' by Bill Fivaz is an excellent resource for those interested in collecting gold coins...Outstanding pictures of PUP's...Cheers, RickO
His name is Bill Fivaz.

Took an ANA grading class from him one summer years ago. His enthusiasm for the hobby is infectious.
He is very friendly and generous with his time.
I attended a presentation he gave at the ANA Summer Seminar. He introduced himself and said he has given this presentation so many times, he decided to record it. He then sat down, pressed 'play' on a cassette player and then changed slides as we listened to his pre-recorded presentation. It was the oddest style of presentation I had ever experienced.

He had an incredible Hobo Nickel collection!
I have had the opportunity to teach with Bill and collaborate on teaching materials. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. A true gentleman. I am honored to be one of his many friends.
And the best part, you can own a coin with his pedigree right now!! Just look for my post in BST!
Great guy that Bill Fivaz!
I called him one day about something (I don't remember what). He answered the phone and we talked for awhile.
He then asked me if there was something I needed, and I replied "not right now, Bill".
A few days later I got a package. It was from Bill. Inside was a VF 1936-S s/s with the wide separation. He sent it to me gratis.
I'll never forget his kindness.

Bill is a great guy and very influential in the error/variety field. Actually, in numismatics generally.
Is anyone here in regular contact with Bill or know of anyone that's heard from him. Wondering how he's doing?
Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )
I know someone that has emailed with him in the last few months. We are not the only ones frustrated with Whitman's delays on the CPG. I have not emailed him about the CPG in a while as I have just resigned myself to the likelihood of the CPG just never happening. I provided notes to them in 2015!

I hope he's ok!
I love his collection and have a few of his coins.
Some are being offered as part of the Fred Weinberg Collection now.
Here's one of my favorites.
I would see Bill twice a month at my local coin club. That was pre-covid, but I haven’t attended since. I know he still attends though based on the newsletters, in January he did a presentation at the meeting titled: “Numismatic things you wanted to know about that you didn’t know you wanted to know about”
