Still learning about trade dollars... So I had to look this one up.... WOW!!! PF66 is really impressive. I’m sure she is pretty in hand with a little light. Strike seems to be absolutely hammered. Congratulations on a sweet addition!

It looks like a beautiful coin. But I wouldn’t be thrilled about the coin being sold three times in two years and we know Laura was unable to sticker the coin.

At the same time, Laura does like the coin a lot. This may be a rare instance where Laura and John disagree.

    Here's Laura's description:

Full disclosure here, Legend Numismatics owns this coin, and yes, we did send it to CAC. We had NO trouble buying it. We still scratch our heads as to what CAC was thinking. This coin is a TRUE ORIGINAL SUPERB GEM piece.

Real and easy to see deep mirrors beam from all over. The mirrors do have great clarity and are super clean. When you twirl the coin, the mirrors look like a freshly formed sheet of glass. Typical to the date, both sides are enriched by a deeper but totally vibrant mix of original azure blue/purple/tangerine colors. This is NOT a dark or drab coin. Miss Liberty and every detail are sharply struck and do stand out. The eye appeal is really nice!

Heritage has a nice description as well:

Period after FINE. Richly toned in electric-blue, gold, and rose-red colors. Liberty's head and nearby stars are fully struck, not always the case on Trade dollars; although the eagle's right (facing) claw was not fully brought up. The 1874 is difficult to locate in any grade due to a low production of 700 pieces, but examples with the beautiful patination and top-notch preservation of the present specimen are nearly unobtainable.

Lots of pics— even the TruView glamour shot 🤐—.but I’d still love to see a basic cell phone pic of this beauty including the slab...

    Congrats on the pickup!

What a gorgeous piece. I 100% like it.
    Great addition 👍

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I appreciate your DD. There is much more to the story.

Please share! Did you hear directly from JA on his thoughts?

I would be surprised by a proof with a die clash. But stranger things have happened.

Looks like a lovely coin. Congrats, @Realone.

Heritage and Legend have slab shots. Those photos are a bit dark which is inline with @Realone's comments, but Laura takes exception with calling it dark, writing "This is NOT a dark or drab coin."

There is no die cash, don't know what the member sees.

My guess is that he was referring to (what looks like) a light colored line, above the top left leaf, to the right of the eagle’s tail. Perhaps it’s just an untoned area.

Based on the images, I think the coin looks gorgeous.

I'd rather have an original beautifully toned Trade Dollar without a green sticker, than a dipped out coin with a sticker! This one looks great to me.
