...from the government(s), that is.

A lot of discussion about folks not getting what they expected. What do you expect ?

Many of the Bahamas sets from that period seem to tone up over time. I have also seen examples where the plastic "seal" around the coin does not stay sealed that well over the years, which may have contributed to toning.

This can be pretty at times, unless you insist on your silver proofs being white.

Upon further view, I don't mind some toning. Some is astonishingly beautiful. Some ugly.
I recall buying all those silver eagle 5 coin sets from board members in 2011 ..., back in the day. These were white

From the mint. And I think the blue felt pad in the box caused this. Dip ? Nah

I do not purchase tarnished coins...and -IMO- the premiums for such are ridiculous. The market is flooded with AT coins, really well done....when done by the experts, no one will tell the difference. There will always be opinions, but opinions are not fact. Tarnish is tarnish... glaring examples of AT are certainly obvious...but the experts succeed over and over again. If one is attracted to colorful tarnish, far easier, and cheaper, to learn to do it yourself. Cheers, RickO

I find some ASE toning quite attractive. (your example, for instance) You suspect the blue pad as the "culprit".
Has anyone seen instances of damaging or ugly forms of toning from being left in OGP in storage?

I'm thinking of opening an unopened box of the 25th Anniversary sets. Is there much chance of these sets having overly toned, ugly coins? Should I let someone else take the risk (pleasure) of the opening? i.e. Are people still paying extra for that opportunity?

I haven't looked at my 25th anniv. set in a long time. I wonder what the coins look like? Now I have to remember where it is? 😁
