Happy Saturday, all. Here is a lovely Halfcrown in decent condition. This date along with the non-overdate 1848 are quite rare in higher states of preservation:

What the heck, while at it GTG if you like..A bit softly struck, so don't get carried away by the obverse hair detail or the shield bits/lions on the reverse.

Well, finest ( and only one graded) known at PCGS. 58 is REALLY rough! LOL

Looks nice! Lustrous, fairly clean fields, minor scuffs on the portrait. Harder to judge the reverse surfaces. 63-64 seems about right.

    64

Exactly, 64. I would buy this as a 58 all day long! Gorgeous in hand. I have an 1850 in 65 that is not as nice.

Attractive color, relatively clean, strong luster. I was going to guess 58 based on what looks like wear on the device high points, until I saw your comment about the soft strike. Now 64 makes sense. A fine coin.

A very nice young portrait. Quite clean surface, with pretty good flow of hair. I think 62+.
Thanks for showing. I get interested in the young portrait recently. A joy to see your good photos. :)

Ah, yes, thanks. Seeing it in person is the best really and the reason I bought it originally in any case. A collector would be hard pressed to find a better example I believe.

BTW, these early Vick half crowns have to be seen in person as the grades do not always tell the whole story. At the kind of money they go for, it is best to be safe!

Will you be sending it to one of the TPG’s?

No, PCGS has it graded at MS64 already.
