If so, he really likes common Buffalo nickels........

He has bought a few top registry sets intact so these could be former coins. Not sure about buffs. Hopefully Currin or JB does a drive by in this thread

But I know what you mean. Just because he bought or owned a coin doesn’t mean it was ever in his registry set. Since Hansen has a vested financial interest in DLRC I’m hoping these aren’t just “marketing” labels and were in fact in his registry sets at one point

Collection is a broad term as well. I always assumed it meant he owned the coin at one time or another. That isn’t too far fetched given everything. I wouldn’t expect, if I were to buy one of these, that it came from a registry set of his.

The attribution doesn’t do much for me, though. I don’t tend to want provenance that big on my slab labels.

As the owner of a few coins with these labels, I discussed this with John Brush. I believe John when he told me that these were indeed previously owned by D.L.Hansen, and not a ruse.

While I don’t follow the Hansen thread on this Forum (perhaps one of those followers can chime in), Hansen’s current collection is of much higher quality today than it was two years ago or so, via upgrades. It’s not like he has a ton of holes in his collection, and just fills them in only when a top pop becomes available. My understanding is when he started this venture a few years ago, he bought a lot of “high grade” coins, presumably with nice eye appeal, and has been upgrading these regularly over time.

    Stay safe.

I have purchased several coins from DLRC and a big fan.
When it comes to the "provenance" of a coin i'm not a big fan.

Well, he does like all US coins.

I wonder when he picked those up. He's currently #2 in the PCGS Set Registry for both circulation and circulation+proofs.

He bought a lot of "jump-coins" early on & has been known for keeping a 2nd set.
    The 38-D looks like one at MS67+ = $750 / MS68 = $6000.

I'm guessing he likes to see & research a particular one before he pounces on a real stunner.
    This is his 38-D now MS68 (Pop 39 & 2 better)

Even Eliasberg had rolls of some common coins. They were sold during his auctions.

As for “Hanson owned this” label, I am not so sure given the large number of coins. I have one Hanson piece, an 1838 $2.50 gold that is a nice coin for the date. I could see where he would have owned that coin at first and sold it when he acquired a better one. My set is #2 behind his on the PCGS registry. Unless he decides to sell everything, I won’t be catching him. It’s too high a hill or mountain to climb.
