Welcome to the board! There are a number of different Sacagawea designs. It is a great idea of a type set to collect to get started. The key will be the Cheerio dollar.

Native American dollar is what you have. They started making them with a different design on the reverse, I believe. Somebody will correct me if I an wrong.

    Nice find!

I also recommend the collecting of the series. A beautiful design (in my opinion) and very affordable, too. A complete set of proofs is very reasonable at around 5 bucks per coin.

    Welcome to the forum!

What you found is a 2010 Sacagawea dollar. The series started in 2000 and is still being minted. Kids love them!

The public should love them too. The country would save $500,000/day if we got rid of the $1 bill (a drop in the ocean, i know, but still...Lots of drops make up an ocean)

@djbcon .... Welcome aboard.....The Sacajawea dollar is a popular item with different reverse designs. It is a good series to collect and reasonable prices... actually possible to build a set at $1 per coin...Cheers, RickO

The Sacagawea Historical Society spelled Glenna Goodacre's name Gelnna Goodcare.
That's pretty bad if I noticed it.

BTW...One of my favorite modern coin designs.

?? That year (as do most) has lettering on the edge. Is that what you are talking about?

  • koynekwestkoynekwest Posts: 10,048 ✭✭✭✭✭

The date and Mint mark, at least, should be returned the it's rightful place on the obverse.

The design was created to incorporate the date. It looks weird without it. But it got swept to the edge by an overzealous politician when they were trying to unclutter the presidential dollar coins and free up space on the Native American dollars.

    No.
From 2000-2008 the date was on the obverse. From 2009 to date the date is on the edge (which you call planchet for some reason)

Welcome to the forums I also share your interest in the Native American dollar coins. I'd like to throw down a little challenge for you if you choose to accept try to find the years 2002 through 2008 in circulation. Those years are hard to find in circulated condition and also the more recent years like I believe 2013 to the present. Have fun!

  • I will look at the rest of my Sacagawea coins Thank you

The OP says that his coin says 2009 and yet it is a 2010 reverse. Show us a photo of the edge with 2009.
