Anyone else notice?

As the world seems to be ending there's no really great coin buys. Seems all that's being sold now are the sacrificial coins which are better fit for tossing in a volcano. Over the course of the last 2 months I'm mostly just seeing stuff with ho hum eye appeal so butt fugly I wish you could un-see some.
Has anyone bought anything spectacular since March?

Spectacular may be an overstatement, but I have bid on several eye-appealing coins (mostly for my Registry set) since the pandemic took hold, and managed to win one last week. But I can't really gauge to what degree overall potential sellers are holding back their 'A' material during this period.
Same observation with currency as to quality. Lots of junk and little choice material. And no real bargains because there are more people out there looking for bargains and few actual bargains.
I did buy this one about a month ago. It's rarer than an 1804 dollar and even a 1913 Liberty Nickel. And it cost soooo much less. (Just under $400.) Q. David Bowers says "none known", so this is the discovery note and possibly unique.

Seems that a lot of collectors are not going to sell their best coins in this economic situation and prices haven’t dropped that much either, yet. Strange times indeed. There was an earlier thread here and most stated that they were on hold.
I bought this. I don't think it sucks, but others may disagree.

Threads like this amuse me. There are good, nice, bad and coins of all kinds all the time. It is no better or worse right now.
I think the threshold of what is fugly is personal to the buyer so there will be variants in the the replies. I obtained this since March and first year Carson half dollars are not an easy coin, i'm happy with it. IMO the Liberty Seated Half series has had many nice coins come to market in the last few months.
I guess that we were expecting more of a change in the market but nice coins are never easy to find.

It did occur to me that the virus really didn't hit us until 4-6 weeks ago. When a person decides to sell a coin through auction or via consignment, the process often takes 3-4 months. Coins need to be acquired, sent for re-grade or re-stickering, photographed, cataloged, etc. The stuff hitting the markets now often took that long to work through the system. We might see a real dearth of good stuff 3 months from now, toward the end of the summer doldrums anyhow.
We'll see, but there's always good stuff out there. Financial pressure might bring a few out too.
I got email alerts from CRO, DKRC, and HLRC with many sweet coins. Nothing fit for me but there were some big temptations.

As bad as it is I think it much worse for people in the income bracket much lower
than those of coin collectors. I’ve been watching Ebay and no real low prices.

There was a great collection of British trade dollars that went off last night for some bonkers prices. I bought some nice world gold at the CSNS auction.
I think the ANA auction could be interesting, since consignment decisions had to be made as the world was ending.

All of the dealers I haunt say things are great and are only afraid of running out of good material, not of business slowing down in general. I think the junk dealers who only sell at shows got smacked but the quality guys seem to be hanging in. I'm sure it's tougher to replace sold inventory, but I'm not seeing any bargains.
I just made a decision tonight! I'm headed to the liquor store tomorrow to stock my cabinet with a years supply! People and my government are not taking this seriously. I'm so glad I have some land around me to protect me from the ignorant populace!

While Classic Silver Commems are clearly out of favor, with prices dropping like a hot knife through butter over the past few years, I’ve used that to start putting together a 50 coin Type Set. I picked up the below coin a week ago in the Heritage auction, at a very fair price. I think @ricko will really like it.

Bought this last week. Looked at well over 1,000 "Toned" MS Morgan's before spotting it. My dealer friend thinks prices will go down soon but I haven't noticed any reductions. Thankful people are still selling.

Some of us finished our weeding a year ago.
Would this be a strike thru? The eye through the head of JFK? Interesting pattern, I have not seen anything like the 9 o’clock to the 12 o’clock position like that before.
As a buyer I have had no problem finding what I want.

Won four lots of medals in an Italian auction last weekend. Paid strong money to get them IMO.

Very neat note. I like those blue and red silk threads embedded in the paper. It was used to thwart counterfeiting attempts although I'm not certain how effective this was. I understand counterfeiters used to create these lines using fine tipped pens with blue and red ink.

Nothing earth-shaking but I have had really good luck cherrypicking over the past month, not sure if there is fresher material coming to eBay or if I just have more time to hunt.

I have no set coin(s) I'm after so it's been kinda open for me and having time to search and search and search has helped me out getting a few keepers for me. The 1858 is in getting graded now.

Agreed...got all those same e-mails. In fact, just today got another earlybird from CRO with 51 amazing coins and 26 minutes later got an email from DWN with an amazing 1810 Half Eagle...unfortunately, don't have the budget right now for any of the ones that caught my eye.

I've always felt that nice coins are in strong hands. If those hands don't feel like selling at any given time, they just won't.
I don't know if the world is ending, but the sky is at least a half-mile lower than it was in February.
I see the fibers now when I zoom in. I really like the coin very much, being a Kennedy half collector.
I think it could be a 62-63.
