Hope that you and your family are navigating through this... It is always difficult to acknowledge change and move forward without taking a moment to appreciate where you have been and where the ongoing path may lead. Great post.

Condolences. I've been the oldest male in my family since I turned 45 and that was a while back
@BigMoose my wife's uncle was likely standing next to your dad on Iwo. He never spoke about it. Only 3 people on the planet knew he was there until it was announced at his funeral.
I note, my "like" was the 50th well deserved "like" to be added to the OP's initial post. Thanks to the OP for sharing such a heartfelt tribute to his Dad.
AS requested, here is something "coin related" that makes me smile.
(The grandson headed for the "coin drawer" while the rest of the family was occupied taking in the Amish memorabilia.)

Here are a few that make me smile!
Stunners !
My dad turned me onto coins when he brought home a roll of nickels from the bank in 1958.
Found several liberty heads from the early 1900's....never will forget that.
From that time on I was hooked and eventually became an addict!
I manage money. I earn money. I save money . I give away money. I collect money. I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
Mark, your tribute to your father was very special for those of us on the forum who have come to know and respect you. My father passed very unexpectedly in 1958 when I was 11 years old. Father's have a very special influence with their children. I know that when your father passed he knew that you were now more than capable of walking in his shoes.
So I post this 1937 Lincoln cent as a tribute to your father and to his knowing the value of just one cent........
@bidask My dad's family used to own a restaurant in the 1940s and 1950s. He said that he remembered, as a child, seeing 5 gallon buckets completely filled with Walkers, in the office. I would have loved to have searched through those!!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I think of my parents often. Especially when reading a story like this. Thanks for sharing.
Losing a parent is soul searing. I'm sorry.
