I have been adding rare date and variety 4 reales to my collection in a bit of a sub-set of lesser quality or lower grade which don't make my core set but that I find fascinating to add. This one without an unnoticed chop I think.

Bought this 4R today at a Polish auction. Rare date, this is the only one graded (which for world coins isn't that impressive). What is more interesting is that in the Aureo & Calico archives 4 examples, two pictured, all VF details coins, show up in 20 years of history. Tough coin!

Thanks, not the greatest coin or surfaces but clearly rare so why not.

Nice pick-up. The coin didn't sell the first time and I did think about bidding on it.

The nicest example I have seen and know sold in March 2002 on eBay by German dealer "JPater". I bought my 1770 Bolivia 4R from him the same day and have been waiting (with no luck) for this coin to show up a second time. Of all the coin where I had an opportunity and the money to buy it, this is the one I regret most. I didn't know how scarce this coin was at the time.

Funny enough, I wasn't actually awarded the lot. Someone else was despite what I am pretty sure was my winning bid. Oh well!

Out of curiosity, did you bid through Sixbid or directly with the auction firm? I ask as I have had my bids get lost in cyber space before with Sixbid.

The other thing that might have happened is that the firm might not have accepted your bids. Years ago, I bid with Cayon where on one lot my max was well above the winning bid. I wasn't awarded the coin either. Then last year for the auction which included the 1762 Peru 4R from your other thread, I contacted them directly and found out I had to provide a 100% deposit which I declined to do.

I did bid directly. The platform had a lag which is what I am attributing the issue to.
