I missed this when you first posted it. 😂🤣🤣😂
I don't miss Baseball at all, but will miss the playoffs if they are not played.
I definitely miss these commercials more than baseball
I don't really miss the sport the longer there are no games. Have adjusted. Just like I did when they went on strike for a whole season. Life goes on within you and without (Baseball) you.
I don't miss Baseball at all, but will miss the playoffs if they are not played.
I just checked, the Phillies are in first place.
Hold that thought.
Classic! Love all of these.
Dave
Yes, tied with everyone else at 0-0! Enjoy it now it won't last if they start playing games!

Since I moved from Boston in 2003, I have not followed baseball that much. It was great when the Red Sox broke “the curse,” and the Phillies in 2008, but I can not see that many Boston and Philly games in Florida. I have never gotten interested in the Tampa Bay Rays, and since they will probably move from here eventually, why get interested in them?
The greedy players who want to be paid a fortune for half a season, with the stands empty or at best a third full, make me less interested in them.
This time of yer is not the same without baseball. I still attend a good number of games a year; I miss going to the ballpark. Looks like I'll be without that whatever happens..
But don't talk about the greedy players. The owners are the ones who control the game; they have sacrificed game tempo for the almighty dollar. When the owners have a banner year, last time I looked, none of them have offered to share that bounty with the players. In this climate, with the virus still at large, the players are the ones risking their lives.
These sports franchises are worth billions of dollars, so if the owners have to suck it up for one season, than so be it. IMO
It’s hard to feel sorry for guys, who make tens or hundreds of millions of dollars per year, who are holding out for large percentages of those salaries, when you have hairdressers, waiters and store employees who are earning nothing, who have to pay for rent, mortgages and food.
An episode of “Star Trek Next Generation” mentioned that professional baseball disappeared for lack of interest. Maybe we are getting to that point. The game has really lost its luster for me. If the Players’ Union wants to shut it down for the year, they earn their living doing something else.
This greedy guy is a prime example of what I mean. He plays for a struggling franchise, and still wants everything when gate receipts are not there. Let him play when the team moves to Canada, and government takes half his salary in taxes. As for this year, let him work construction.
I can tell I'm way in the minority here, but let me turn this around and ask the question from the other side. The multi-billionaire owners, who make tons of money from these franchises and see their values go through the roof......don't they in turn owe it to their employees and the fans, the people who ultimately put money in their pockets to give us baseball, even if they have to suck it up and take a little hit for one year. They certainly aren't going to lose those billions they've accumulated. Most everything I hear, see and read keeps dwelling on the greedy players. How do the owners get a pass on this?
If it were that easy for the "billionaire owners" to make money, the "billionaire" who owns the Phillies would have bought a pennant by now. He bought one great player last year, and that was it.
I am almost always on the players side.
He's not interested in the pennant, just making a profit, or a bigger profit.
This season, EVERYBODY is going to lose money. It's a disaster, and way the negotiations between the owners and the players union are going, they may as well pack it in.
As for the play-offs and World Series, it's gotten to be like a wart on the back of a bull. Everybody's watching football, and baseball has become an "Oh, by the way ..."
It's not like old days when the World Series was a very big deal.
BTW I don't think the Tampa team is making much money. The attendance is the worst in baseball despite the fact that the team is competitive. Part of the problem is the stadium, which is hard get to. The team is locked into a contact there until 2028, and the area politicians are not going to do what it takes to build another site for them. That's why the team wants to play half of its home games in Canada. Once that happens, it will be bye-bye for the Tampa Bay Rays.
I used to love baseball.
Now, I can't stand it.
Way too slow.
Every pitch, the batter steps out of the batter's box, undoes his gloves, tightens them up, looks down the line, takes a few swings, spits once or twice, then when he gets back into the box, he puts his hand up signaling time given by the ump so he can 'prepare' himself for the next pitch.
What a big joke.
I say, once his two feet are in the box, throw a fastball down the pipe.
Get this game moving as it's one big yawnfest.......playoffs or no playoffs....same thing.
And don't get me started on the last minute of a basketball game when each team seems to have about 10 times outs each.
Takes about 20 minutes to get that last minute in. Boring!!!

What's that have to do with it. It is that easy for them; they're the only baseball game in town. Huge TV contracts, Merchandise revenues out the wazzoo, cable TV deals...and this is all without the postseason. So if they take a hit for one year in the mix, isn't that part of the risk they assume. When the team makes money, do they say that we won't raise prices next year. They can't have it both ways; enjoying all the additional profits in good times and then pushing back and asking the players to take on a share in one lean year. I'd love to be able to go in and take a look at their books and see how much is really being made; not just the unsubstantiated figures they publish.
lets make this a lockout season , that lasts 2 seasons.
Give america 2 years off from baseball and see if anyone even notices
It’s time for these greedy, overpaid players to earn money in the real world and find out what it’s like for the people who buy the tickets to see them play.
I agree with you on the idiosyncrasies of the ball players. Annoying, drags the game out longer. Bob Gibson would of drilled them. As far as longer games and timeouts: You can thank the Network,TV/Radio coverage for that. They need to have a certain amount of commercials aired to satisfy company paid product air time. Got to sell the beer, cars, etc. At least if they made them somewhat entertaining. The longer they do not play baseball, I miss it less and less. Been through many work stoppages before.
Sorry, but it's that game I grew up with and played every second I had the chance. For me, and I know I'm in the minority, for both sides to be arguing over petty stuff is just unconscionable. The owners who continue to live their lives without really any change (with their money, everything is available to them), they don't feel the suffering of the millions of unemployed workers. Those people are the ones who spent their hard earned money to make them what they are today. Whatever happens, the players lose, as athletes have a very limited shelf life to make the kind of money they make playing this or any game. The earning power for that period of time is lost forever. I personally will miss the game, but I think many out there will not.
You can see who the cranky old fans are by reading this thread. Now get off my lawn!

Agreed.
But commercials have nothing to do with these batters (and slow pitchers) taking their time to play the game.
I'll give you another example in a different sport.
Take your average foursome of Sunday golfers, who let's say complete their round in a very slow 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Do you realize if each golfer for every one of their shots (driver, irons and putts) would only quicken each shot by a mere 5 seconds, the end result would be shaving 30 minutes off their round. (4 players x 5 seconds x 90 shots divided by 60 seconds in a minute = 30 minutes saved).
Same thing goes for baseball....a few seconds saved for each pitch and for each swing, could add up to saving 30 minutes also.
Very small change nets a very big positive result.

Thank you!, and yes I am a senior. But the way I was brought up, baseball was an important of our lives. I can see that it's not for my kids, although my daughter is more into it because of her husband.
Then as far as shaving seconds off here and there.it's difficult to draw the line where. The manager waits until the last second to send a pinch hitter to the plate. The other manager then waits until the batter is in the box awaiting the pitch before he takes his slow walk to the mound, talks for 30 seconds or so and then makes a pitching change. etc, etc, etc
Have to respectfully disagree completely here, but not for the annoying batter/pitcher game that goes on, but the frequent visits to the mound by the catcher manager/coach, (and the resulting pitching changes) and when did it become normal for the entire infield to gather to discuss the situation.
This is when the commercials are "snuck in".
You also have more/longer pre and post game shows. The resulting mess results in an extremely long, boring, mind numbing experience.
I am sure NO ONE will watch this, but if you do, you will see EXACTLY what I mean. The difference in the game and how it's presented is ASTOUNDING!

that really shows how disgraceful modern teams and broadcasts are
15 seconds between pitches? 20 seconds maybe after a foul tip ?
that game happened a month before the miracle of my birth
It was wonderful growing up and being able to watch this. Yes the image quality was worse and the TV was small, but it was beautiful!
Only thing wrong was the Twins lost.
I can remember going to Phils games and the played in less than 2 hours. But then again, that's why those players had to take other jobs in the offseason. I don't like it, but it's all about the money.
