I ran out of clear shipping tape and had to go get some or risk the wrath of eBay buyers.
This is the quarter I received in change.🙂

Someone may have broken up a Proof Set?? and spent it!
Definitely..
Or stole one.
Olden days (pre mid-March) I would have asked the cashier if there were any more funny-looking quarters in her till.
Truly a nice find!
That doesn't happen everyday.

Great change find... that is a real surprise...I tend to skim over the modern quarters (well, not so much now that there are W quarters out there)...but would not expect a modern silver quarter to show up...Cheers, RickO
Proof silver is welcome anytime like that. Nice catch
These things seem to happen under stressful times. I got several silver dimes and quarters in change during the financial crisis 10 years ago.

Is this for real???
I wonder why this happened? 2012 is an expensive date for proof sets. I can understand someone spending a 70s-00s clad proof coin.
The person may have stolen the proof set. I had all mine stolen back around 2008, the person doing it broke all the coins out of their tombs, be it, PCGS or mint sets and proof sets and tried to spend them at the local convenience store. The store said the coins were fake and there was a guy in there that gave him 25 cents or less on the dollar for them, and he sold them to him. There was several hundred toned franklin half and Morgan dollars in the bunch that had not been graded. They were just loose.
I highly doubt they'd do that if the coins were gold. I can't imagine someone spending a $20 saint or liberty.
They were silver, no gold.
Cool!
Nice pocket piece even if it turns out to be clad![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
