NN: ‘W’ Quarters with Privy Mark Announced

Now this sounds like a great idea from the U.S. Mint.
‘W’ Quarters with Privy Mark Announced
Posted on April 10, 2020 by Numismatic News Staff
The period from May 8 to Sept. 2, 2020, marks the 75th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II. In recognition of this significant anniversary, the U.S. Mint will manufacture “W” mintmark quarters that feature a special privy mark signifying the allied victory in World War II.
While circulating coins are typically made only in Philadelphia or Denver, these special circulating coins that bear the “W” mintmark are manufactured at the Mint facility at West Point.
The Mint released the first two 2020 “W” America the Beautiful (ATB) quarters, honoring the National Park of American Samoa (American Samoa) and the Weir Farm National Historic Site (Connecticut), on April 6. The coins will likely begin to appear in circulation within four to six weeks after the release date, according to the Mint. The first wave of National Park of American Samoa quarters bearing the “P” or “D” mintmark were released Feb. 3 and do not bear the privy mark.

Didn't know that.
The 2020W's do not have near the quality of the 2019 w's is most likely do to the mint mixing them in with the whole distribution of the run thus the coins getting more hit marks along the way. I have only seen the ones that are listed on ebay but they definitely look rough.
Have you found any yet?
No, I have 16 boxes coming this week. I have been looking on ebay and talking to others who have them and they all say the quality is not there that the 2019's have. It has to be because of the way the mint mixed them in with the P's and D's.
So, I got $250 in rolls on Friday, no luck. How do you order boxes? Through your bank? Thanks.
Amazed how these can be found after only 1 week after lease. Again, got $250 of all new bat quarters, but they must have been from release prior to mix with W's. Thanks
You just go up to a teller at your bank and tell them what you want to order and they will get them for you by next week. I have a standing order at 4 Wells Fargo for 4 boxes each week.
Wow... Have to give it a try... would like to get a W Bat quarter with the privy mark...Cheers, RickO
I think I've only seen about 5 or 6 of the 2019-P quarters in change and searching maybe $500 worth of rolled quarters. At this time with people not wanting to handle change because of the virus I probably won't see any 2020's for a couple years! Seen only 1 of the W's found locally by a friend last July 4th time- must have been spent by a tourist.
When you order boxes, there is no guarantee that they will be new quarters. I believe that you get what you get an dhope for the best...
I have picked up a couple of hundred boxes last year so I will vouch for not getting what you are looking for. It is then a pain to get rid of all the junk coins so if you don't have time to invest don't do it especially now with all the bank lobbies closed.
Hi my NM friend, My bank lobbies are open, no problem there. They are on the look out for boxes of new (2020) quarters. I have the time to go through rolls, but I stick to new rolls. I have the time, just sticking to high probability. Thanks, let's find some W's!!!
Sounds good to me.
If you can find high grades on the Weir W's you should do very well with these coins as collectors will be hard pressed to keep their collections going, Last years coins were there in abundance but not this year as the coins have many hits on them.
I don't know what that means..
Last years coins were there in abundance but not this year as the coins have many hits on them.
The quality was high in last years coins but the mint is using a different distribution system this year and the coins are getting banged up badly so there won't be many high grade coins.
Okay, we'll see. I guess that I'll just cherry-pick what I find to keep. Let me know if you get any hits, I believe that you have my e-mail. GL

I like the look of the privy mark.
I'll like the look too when it is in my hands...
