As many of you know, I was a charter member here almost 20 years ago.

Back then there was no badge system.

I was wondering when, who and why this instituted ?

Thanks

It was apparently part of the new software.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Seems like a marketing thing, an attempt to pull in some of the younger crowd imo. Same concept as fantasy football, a great many; majority even; of people that do that were never interested in football until its creation. And like the registry points thing, its a gimmick to try and get people to do something they might not have ever thought about, like starting an Asia set for instance

    My Lincoln Registry
    My Collection of Old Holders

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.

Here is my favorite badge and one of my best eBay finds. About six years ago I won it for $60:

A circa 1940s cast REPRODUCTION of just the lower (ingot) part of this badge sold for nearly $2,000 at Heritage in 2006:

Forum badges, titles, etc. have been around for years. It’s the gamification of everything. Some people really get into it and others don’t care. Personally, I don’t care that much since it doesn’t come with tangible rewards.

It's a form of identification. I like it.
