Is it TRUE???

Is it true PCGS is now putting the state flags on Circulation strikes also, per a dealer I just recently I bought a graded MS68 state Quarter from it is arriving with the State Flag insert not the normal one.

I was under the understading this was to only be done with Proof(silver/clad) only

Any thoughts should I have it reslabbed with a normal one or let it be my odd ball in the collection

Thanks
Rick

That'll be interesting if PCGS decides to do so. Just for fun, I'm collecting all the various NY State quarters offered. There's about a half dozen so far and counting.

If PCGS is doing this with Circulated strikes are they then restricting it to MS68 coins?

    For a $5 reholder fee, I bet they'd do it for a PO-01

Personally, I'd let it be the odd ball. Besides, you never know when you'll upgrade that coin later on. I fell into the reholder game to make things look nicer, but now I'm just letting it be.

I carry most of the MS State quarters now in high grade with Flag Holders. I have been shipping them out to customers at no additional charge for the flags as a special bonus when I can. image Wondercoin.

    Mitch,

Is the flag thing an automatic, or does it have to be requested separately?

Keith: The flag inserts are produced in sheets of 100 per state per submission, which is why they can only be done (as far as I know) in bulk submissions involving 100 or more coins per state. My understanding is any collector can request them (at $2/coin additional) along with their bulk submission.

They are very neat and, as I mentioned, wherever I can, I intend to ship them to collectors at no additional charge. Anyone interested in a particular MS state quarter holder can PM me and I can see if I can make an offer on the coin in the state flag holder at my normal asking price for the non-flag holdered coin. image Wondercoin.

  • Mitch,

in your opinion will the flags bring up the cost of the coin in the future or keep it in line with original slabbed quarters.

PS... I'm getting that first one from You... just was under the understanding it was only being done for proofs, I wish this started this back in 1999.

Rick: In my opinion, the flags make the 100 pc. Mint State set or 200 pc. MS & Prood set a fabulous collection to frame or showcase in special albums. Other than perhaps $2-$5/coin added value for the flag, I see no other "value" besides the "artistic value". They look really cool. image Wondercoin
