Coins from the 60's

I'm fairly new to collecting and have noticed that most of the coins from the 60's came out with extra large dates. I understand how that happened. But why isn't that considered to be extra thickness doubling as others are. Thank you.

Subtle changes in the appearance of the Lincoln cent obverse have taken place many times during their 111 year span of issue. Such changes are the result of different people being in charge of the minting process over time and also changes in the minting machinery or metal content.

Good observation though.... Keep looking at your coins, it is a great hobby and there are lots of interesting coins still out in the wild...Cheers, RickO
