Indian Head Cents

New member from France, first discussion, excuse my poor English
Here are two Indian Head Cent coins
1878 present weight 3.13 g in good XF condition

1879 present weight 3.02 g in XF condition

Can you help me to determine more precise gradings and approximate market values for these coins I would like to sell.

The 1878 is a strong XF. In a holder you might get $200. The 1879 is xf details but the scratch on the face is a big problem. You would be lucky to get $20.

I could see the 78 in AU depending on luster. I second Rick Snow! He is fair and in my opinion the go to guy for Indian Cents.

Thank you for your quick answering. There is no scratch on the face of the 1879, perhaps something on the lens, I will take a new photo to check. No much luster left on the 1878, very little between letters,

You could also check CoinFacts to get an approximate idea of the values, along with seeing what certified examples look like and have sold for.
I agree with the others; the 1878 is the 'money' coin, and probably grades XF45, with a shot at AU.
The 1879 is a much more common date and grades approximately XF40 - assuming it's not scratched, as you indicated, still a decent example of an earlier date.
    Best of luck to you!

I took a new photo, same effect. Closer regarding with a magnifier, it seems to be a line in the patina, no metal is removed.
