Well, as nuts as it is, if this was a open and free action with no reserve I'd be a buyer at perhaps $150.00 tops (as the coin is truly difficult to locate in this condition- problem free). I am one of the weirdos though and I doubt there are many end users like me willing to pay anything close to what is being asked now.
I forget how the Chinese were putting wear on coins, was it rock tumblers or the small concrete mixers? I'm guessing you could make these, idk if they would then slab.
I got into this before it really became a craze because I loved really worn Morgan CC dollars the story they can tell but then they started to go for stupid money
The "lowball" craze is just another expression of the desperation many collectors feel when they can't have the "finest known". In this case the "worst known" becomes the objective. My valuation on the coin would be 50 cents.
I must have been a pioneer... I have collected low grade early copper for many years.
This is one of my only slabbed examples and has a CAC bean- must be a punch line there somewhere...
I won a Columbian Exposition low ball in the Pogue auction last night. It’s uncertified because there’s no date left, but I don’t care. It’s in the auction catalogue, and I collect Columbian Exposition coins and love tokens so it’s a perfect addition to my collection and I’m extremely excited!

As a longtime lowball collector......I cant support sky high prices for pop bottom pieces....Id rather wait and make my own. For $18 bought 1873 no arrows seated half that graded PCGS PO01 Open-3......tough in any grade (PCGS only graded 60 pieces) - thats the kind of lowball coin collecting that,s fun!
Craig If I had it my way, stupidity would be painful!
I like Colorfulcoins methods. Here's a pretty low pop 1843-0 Lg O seated quarter - A likely PO-01. Rescued it from a junk silver coin pile for $8. I doubt there's another one of these out there. Had it for over 12 yrs....will eventually get it slabbed....maybe.

I too agree, on the issue of some interest. But $700, ah, no. Too high, the $150 sounds more like it. The reason I'm a buyer is this;
This so happens to be my recent submission. AG 3. The lowest graded for that variety, thus far. ☺️

Lol. Besides it being (the lowest certified
Grade) in a class of their own, as to the highest certified grade) also in a class of their own, braddick posted a very good point. To think, these survived, at least to be recognized as to what year and/or variety the coin may be? Esp. when the coin is popular to collectors! Ex: The 1864L Indian Cent RPD Snow-1 variety or the very well known and sought after the 1955 double die Cent.

Yeah, I have never understood the allure of slicks. A $700 dollar slick? I don’t think so, Scooter.

How absurd! It's worth 50 cents.
How did they determine the date ?
I can’t even see the date!

Ridiculously overpriced coins and Ebay go together, the number of sellers that are content to fish forever to catch that one fish is really something.

Maybe a rock tumbler would be of some use to create these things.
What's ridiculous about it? That's $700 for a FR02?
I thought you offered something like $1000 for a low ball Ike?
^
In the world of lowballs there is a strong distinction between a PCGS PO1 Ike dollar and a PCGS FA2 Kennedy half.
peacockcoins
Yes, but even Pogue had to settle for FR02s in his collection. Couldn't get PO01s for them all.
I would really like to know how the date was determined....I cannot see it at all...And no, I would not purchase such a coin....Cheers, RickO
It only takes two bidders to make the rest of us ponder the meaning of "fair"..

@braddick I love how you describe the coin as “problem free”! 🤣😉
What's the little round bump at the bottom on the obverse? Stupid crazy!
With the amount of wear on that coin I'd offer 46 cents for it.
Not a little ridiculous, bat poop crazy.
In this case, “problem” would be defined as additional design details/less wear.😉

I know! Nonetheless, I remain amused.
That person must have had sand in their pocket to have a piece wear down that fast! But $700. bucks is a little nuts!!
Whatever keeps interest in coins and coin collecting is ok by me! Keep it going..
I like this one better than MS68 one

That is a very attractive coin! Congrats!
still looking for a PO01 capped bust half, but not willing to pay the stupid prices I have seen on ebay for those!
