Update from GreatCollections, our March 22nd/29th auctions are now April 5th and 12th
I wanted to update everyone about the latest developments in Orange County and how it relates to GreatCollections
- Ian
Dear Friends,
We added a press release earlier about how our company is dealing with the coronavirus emergency and since then, things have rapidly progressed in Irvine, California where our company is located.
This afternoon (March 17th), the Orange County authorities have closed all non-essential businesses in Orange County, effective immediately, until Tuesday, March 31st. To us, any business related to coins is essential, but they are not listed on the exclusions list.
Apart from the two auctions we're extending, we hope clients will not notice much difference otherwise, as we have made preparations over the past two weeks and anticipated the possibility of major cities closing around the U.S.
How GreatCollections will be affected by this measure:
Our March 22nd and March 29th auctions will be delayed by 14 days each - so all coins/paper money currently scheduled to end on Sunday, March 22nd, will be moved to Sunday, April 5th. And the coins we just listed for our Sunday, March 29th auctions will be moved to Sunday, April 12th.
Shipping
For invoices recently paid, we do plan on shipping these in the next two days and will e-mail tracking numbers, as usual. For invoices paid over the next few days, we will endeavor to ship these as usual as well.Consignor checks/payments
All consignors for recent auctions will be paid in full as scheduled and will be completely unaffected by the Orange County shutdown.Receiving consignments and mail
We have made arrangements that consignments shipped to us will still be received by our firm - and after a 48 hour hold period in a dedicated vault at GreatCollections, your consignment will be logged in to your account. Rest assured, you can still ship consignments to GreatCollections and they will be received safely and securely.
For clients who mailed us checks (or plan to mail checks), please continue to do so, and they will be processed on the day they are received.Cash advances for consignors
For consignments that arrived today and will arrive over the next two weeks, we will be processing advances as usual, immediately after they are logged into your account. We can wire proceeds and also overnight checks by request.CAC and coins at grading (PCGS, NGC & ANACS)
We will resume processing recently consigned raw coins for grading when we return on Wednesday, April 1st, as well as coins received back from the grading services between now and March 31st.Customer service
We will still be returning calls and e-mails seven days a week during this period. Contact us if you need help with anything.
Our staff will continue to be paid in full during this shutdown - and we have your business over the past decade to thank for this. So, we repeat - thank you for everyone's support during these times. Stay safe and keep in touch.

PS. We have been working on some of the biggest collections we've ever brought to market over the past few weeks - a complete $2.5 Indian Set in Mint State and Proof graded by PCGS - a significant collection of Classic Proof Gold and other Rarities - the finest NGC-graded 1953-S Franklin with Full Bell Lines and too many other coins to mention. Stay tuned for our April and May auctions!

Take care Ian and to all your staff be safe. These are crazy times.
We’ll miss you. If Orange County extends the closings a lot (no pun intended) longer than this initial two weeks, any thoughts of setting up temporarily somewhere else? Regardless, safe wishes for you and your entire staff.
My collecting “Pride & Joy” is my PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 Set:

Thank you for the update.
Safe to say we'll be here when you get going again! (We's addicted).
Keep yourselves healthy and safe!
Take care.
Stay safe.
A complete and definitive update. Excellent reassurance for all involved.
It is for the best for consignors too. A lot of income and cash flow uncertainty from the bidding side presently would not serve them well.
Thanks and I will continue to support your site now and in the future
Kennedys are my quest...
Let's discuss.
Yes, we do have provisions for this in our emergency plans should things ever progress to that.
Thanks,

An update from Orange County. Last night, the OC Government reversed their decision to close all non-essential businesses (personally, I'm shocked at their incompetence and I predict a double reversal in the near future). This does not change the GC plan we posted, but instead of phones being diverted to staff, we're here at the office.

Best coin auction venue in the business, keep up the good work! I was planning on spending my "helicopter money" the government is talking about sending everyone in the US.... at GC, so hopefully you can help me make that happen .
Stay safe Ian & Realeen
