Two Birds with one gold rock...

This is a specimen of rich native gold in quartz from the "B" Vein, Lecanvey Prospect, Croagh Patrick (Saint Patrick's Mountain), County Mayo, Ireland. What makes this specimen so special and rare is that it comes from the slopes of Croagh Patrick, a 2,500 foot high mountain in Ireland that was the site that Saint Patrick spent 40 days fasting on in the year 441 AD and subsequently reportedly cast all snakes and reptiles out of Ireland, which helped him to Sainthood.

Back in the 1980's, gold was discovered here (or perhaps this is better described as being "rediscovered" as anthropologists believe gold was mined here by the Celtic people thousands of years ago). The discovery and exploration mining caused a huge public outcry with concerns over the potential desecration of this most holy of sites, and was subsequently stopped in the exploration stage. Very few specimens were ever made available from this short lived venture, these are simply exceeding rare!

Scary enough thats just one of many orders moving through the building. Havent had many 100oz bars of gold lately, but we have had 60 or so 1000oz silvers come through in the last 3 weeks. I really hate helping the shippers when those come in.
