1816 – The Year Without a Summer

In one of our latest articles, Jay Turner covers the events of 1816, known as “the year without a summer”, and its impact on both economics and numismatics. Covering many countries, one of the interesting notes on numismatics is that the United States Mint produced only one 1816-dated denomination that year, though it did also strike 1815-dated quarters and half dollars in the first weeks of January.
