Atlanta ANA coin show report

On Thursday morning I drove from Birmingham to Atlanta for my first coin show. A little background.....I collected coins as a teenager, than college, marriage, kids and career sidelined me for 30+ years. Today I have a “raw coin” (mostly Morgan’s) business on EBay and collect a few higher grade slabbed Morgans. The majority of my business has been auction and internet related. So, I was really excited about going to what for me was, a big coin show.
I really wanted to make the best use of my time so I spent the prior week listing out my priorities. Someone on this board recommended that I spend the first hour walking the floor and just observing. That was very helpful! I entered the show about 20 minutes after the doors opened and thought there was a decent crowd. Some dealers looked lonely but there was a lot of activity at others. I had some Canadian Maple leafs to sell for a friend and a nice lady at PQ coins pointed me to Empire Gold and Silver. When I got to their table I had to stand in line for a for awhile. Wesley Mull was a busy man! I sold the gold and was happy with what I got.
One of my first priorities was finding NFC. They had a 1879-CC Morgan, PCGS MS64+ PL CAC that I wanted to add to my collection. I bought several coins to trade and was hoping they would work with me. There was a lot of activity at their table and I waited to move in. I talked with Matt, made an offer on the coin, then proposed a trade. Matt was easy to work with and in a very short time struck a deal. I traded a 1879 PCGS MS65 DMPL morgan (a duplicate) plus cash for the 79-cc. I was very happy!
I also spent some time a few tables over at Northern Nevada. Allen and John were very helpful and I ended up selling them a 1883-CC NGC MS67 dmpl morgan. I thought they were very fair and I received close to my offering price.
On my earlier walk around I spotted a beautiful 1884-CC MS66+ dmpl cac at Rinkor Rare coins. I went back by later in the day and negotiated with Don Rinkor. I had one final coin I wanted to move and ended up trading a 1879 PCGS MS68 morgan plus cash for the 84-CC. Now I’m really pumped! Don was a great guy, again easy to work with.
One final priority was trying to find some raw Morgans for my ebay store. I accomplished this at Larry Briggs Rare Coins. Larry let me look through some boxes of his better date raw Morgans. We dickered back and forth and I ended up buying 8 from him. Mission accomplished!
Other things........I had a very pleasant visit with John Brush (David Lawrence), really nice guy. Also, seemed like there were a lot of Foreign coin tables, more than I expected.
All and all, it was a great trip for me. I think I knocked out everyone of my priorities. I look forward to finding another show to attend in the future.

Great report. Don tempted me with a nice Trade dollar at Long Beach. Glad you accomplished you’re goals and had a good time.
Very good report... and nice to see you prepared and then accomplished what you set out to do...I would like to see that 1879 CC Morgan you purchased... sounds like an impressive coin. Cheers, RickO
Nice report.
Don has a lot of pretty stuff — got a pic of that 66+ DMPL CC you snagged? It probably has a TruView....
Great report! Sounds like some monster coins! Please post pictures...
