Dug military button id assistance req.
It was 50 here the other day, dug an old homestead under a collapsed and removed porch. Nice button in thick but fine dry dust of ages. 18mm. Obv is the number 1, rev showing some gilt and embossed J and O on opposite sides of the stem. My online search hasn't been fruitful. Thanks in advance.

Roy, Those letters look - to me - like an O and a C....Good pictures....I have no idea of origin. Are there button collector sites? Never looked for them, maybe help there...Cheers, RickO
Best I can do is during civil war there were observation companies using tethered balloons. Or could be ordinance related but I'm guessing obsevation and could be Corp.
@ricko @mapleman Thanks guys, I'm still searching the web. It's gonna be in the 50's tomorrow so I'm going out!
BTW, I did have success with a second button due to it's popularity. See attached "Union" Flag w/ 13 stars, 18mm: Alberts PC 285 A. Peace Roy
