I am not sure which is older. The 1795 half eagles were issued first, in July if memory serves, but the 1795 eagle was made from the first die pair according to the Dannreuther - Bass die variety book in September. Therefore the eagle might days, weeks or a month or so older.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

This is tied for my oldest gold coin. It is a really nice XF45 1850-O $20. It required a hefty premium to acquire this one.
