(1860) Edward Everett/George Washington by Joseph Merriam 31mm in copper
Here is an example from Joseph H. Merriam's patriotic medals, muling preeminent orator of his day Edward Everett and the father of our country, George Washington. This die is also found with his "July Fourth 1860 Oration of 1860:
Everett was Secretary of State, Governor of Massachusetts, a US Senator, and a running mate of John Bell under the Constituional Union Party during the Election of 1860. But he will always be remembered (forgotten) for his hour long speech at Gettysburg, to which he was upstaged by President Lincoln's "few appropriate words."
Post your copper for the now fading weekend...
