Germs on coins? Currency Coronavirus? Did you see this?

So I happened to see this and was wondering if anyone here has any concerns in handling bulk coins etc?

Fan Yifei, deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China, said at a news conference on Saturday that the cash collected by commercial banks must be disinfected before being released back to customers.

Cash collected from hospitals and food markets must be handled separately and disinfected before depositing the notes to the People’s Bank of China, Mr. Fan said. In severely hit regions, the collected cash must undergo ultraviolet or high-temperature disinfection and be stored for 14 days before going back to the market, he added. In less impacted areas, the bank notes must be disinfected and stored for a week before use.

A People’s Bank of China branch in the southern city of Guangzhou is even destroying bank notes that came from hospitals, food markets and public transportation, according to a report by Nanfang, a state-owned outlet in Guangdong province.

Many people in major Chinese cities primarily use their smartphones to pay for just about anything, increasingly rendering cash obsolete. But hundreds of millions of people in the country are not connected to the internet, and some older residents still prefer cash.

It would be easier to just destroy the currency and re-issue it.

A nearby gamma ray burst or type 1a supernova would certainly sterilize all the currency.

The Coronavirus can survive for days outside the body. Other microbes vary in survival rates in the environment from hours to centuries. Circulating coins and currency are not sterile, and can certainly be a mechanism for spread of microbes, albeit not as good as other mediums such as water, air, or food.

Very low risk on getting it from currency. Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread most often by respiratory droplets. Now somebody with ncov19 coughs on you during the transaction....

They did - there was an issue of 4 Billion Yuan.

I have been reading about bacteria and viruses not being able to reproduce once it’s exposed to copper, also silver has very similar properties.

Would the population be healthier if they returned our coinage to the metals?

There have been several cases of ****the corona virus ****in the US so if anyone here has any US paper money, feel free to send it to me for proper disposal. ;)

Corona is a family or type of virus SARS is a Corona Virus, Cold viruses are corona viruses there are others but off the top of my head I cannot think of them.

'THE Corona Virus' seems to be a media misnomer in the line of DB Cooper

The answer is already here and has been available since 1878. One Boyd's Miniature Galvanic Battery hung around the neck will purify the blood, prevent baldness, brown bile, Corona Viruses, blotchy skin, venereal diseases (except in California) and give a general sense of well being.

For the virus on surfaces - the key is to wash your hands - and not to rub your nose etc after handling stuff.

I was going to China once a month up until now. While I obviously know it’s used I haven’t seen any one use cash in years. We Chat is the new currency. This is a non event imho
