VALENTINES DAY MASSACRE FRIDAY METAL PORN!!! Show us the GOODS!
Got another interesting piece this week. Part of a group of stuff that was unexpected but welcomed, and one that will be part of my collection--for now at least
Another thing that might not appeal to most people, and I totally get that. But I think it's pretty cool for many reasons:
This is an ashtray by Mexican silversmith Salvador de la Serna, and probably dates to about 1950. The unadorned, architectrual geometric shape is quintessential Modernist design. I think it looks like a swimming pool with a diving board, and that may very well have been the intention. It's heavier than you'd expect, too: About 2 ounces. Serna created pieces for at least one of the top tier Mexican silversmiths of the 20th century--Margot de Taxco.
And to keep this VALENTINES DAY THEMED...

Very nice Weiss!
I’ve been holding out for the last 2 pieces I need for my type set, but I did add a couple of ASEs this week.

That looks like a cigar ashtray....? How big is the holder channel? Looks like it would take a cigar.
I like the cut of your jib, @DrBuster

@Weiss....I really like that ashtray (though I am not a smoker)....Classy looking... Not as nice as your tankard ( ) but very nice. Cheers, RickO
That Mexican mid-century piece reminded me of a bowl I have, Tiffany, 1950’s, similar look:
