I don't like the "refinished" for starters. Looks like someone took this cent to the pavement or some other form of tooling. Here is the PCGS link for the 1943-S Doubled Die Obverse Cent;

We all started somewhere and asking questions is a good way to begin. The red book is a good information source. You might also purchase either the ANA grading standard book or look at PCGS CoinFacts web site to get an idea of what various coins should look like in various grades. Once you have an idea what a coin should look like, it will be much easier to spot ones that have been altered or tampered.

The surface of Lincoln looks pretty distorted I dont quite understand what would cause this.
Obvious severe damage. Please buy a current copy of the Red Book "A Guide Book of United States Coins" 73rd Edition, 2020 and read it cover to cover.
@291fifth I will get the red book thank you. I understand the noob questions are rather distasteful to you feel free to skip over my posts if that helps. I've been receiving a lot of support from these comments and enjoy sharing my oddball items and learning about them. I have some more to share later again thank you all, this is a great place and I am enjoying my time here.
You might consider putting all of them in a single thread. If you launch dozens of threads with damaged or common coins, you will bring out the curmudgeons.
the things i do before i buy coins or if i find one is lots of research, books, asking questions and understanding what is a minor error and what is major error, trust me i have found many errors in change most are very minor and not worth a lot but finding them is still fun
if you are in the coin hobby for big bucks you will be very disappointed cause big bucks aren't going to happen with minor errors and such

Will do thank you.

No. This set is inherited. At this time I'm in the business for education. I will get the aforementioned books, however I would still like to share my inherited collection and I will take @jmlanzaf advice and pick a dozen or so to put in a single post, and try to limit myself to one post per day Thank you.
This is a great place to learn, don't get discouraged. As mentioned posting several coins in one thread can help. There is also the Q&A form, sometimes you will get more constructive responses and multiple treads are not a problem. It can be a tough crowd on the main board at times. Hope your new treasures will spark a lifetime hobby for you.
Your cent is severely damaged.... so no numismatic premium for that coin. Good luck with your inherited collection and enjoy the hobby. Cheers, RickO
How do you update the post to show the Accepted Answer flag?
I just realized I should get that done @isaiah58
Tell me how you did it please. I have two posts to update. For now I edited the subject line.
I just click yes on the answer and it goes straight to the top. Hope this answered your question. I know that sometimes none responsive issues like that can be browser related.
Looks like a grinder was taken to it.

The correct term, is “doubled die” and not “double die”. But because of the elision effect when you pronounce these two words more people use the term “double” instead of “doubled”. And finally I might add ........
.........“Oh me oh me, oh me oh my, your coin is not a DOUBLE die!"
