GTG - 1923 Peace Dollar - GRADE POSTED

Grade posted further down the page.
I purchased this coin a couple years back. It's currently the only Peace dollar in my collection. Thought it'd be fun to play "Guess the grade". Grade will be revealed in about 24 hours on Friday evening.

I would say Ms 64
Luster appears to be outstanding, the color very appropriate. Frost on the devices is great (always look in the feathers) and no trace of wear (easiest for me to pick up in the little ridges of the rock the eagle is standing on). The gunk above "IN GOD" appears to be a bit of milk-spotting, which is common, but detracts ever-so-slightly. Strike is pretty nice for the issue. No real hits, one frost-break scrape across the eagle and a bit of reverse field and ray chatter. A little tick on the nose. I think no less than MS65, possibly higher.
Assuming the luster on the obverse matches the reverse, I'll say 65

My first thought was MS66. My second thought was MS66. I don’t yet have a third thought.

I agree MS66

Knowing how tough they are on Peace Dollars, I was going to guess 4 with a good shot at 5...
but smarter people than me are saying 6, so....looks like another learning opportunity for me!
I love the reverse luster, hard to tell how strong it is on the critical obverse though.
My off the cuff very first quick impression was 64.

My first though was 65, but seeing it in 66 plastic wouldn't shock me...

I would agree with a 65.
MS64.
The scrape marks on the eagle give me pause. Perhaps MS65 as I take what I obverse into consideration along with Mark Feld's grade.

Thanks to everyone for participating. A few folks nailed it exactly, although if resubmitted today, I think the coin might well get a plus or possibly even a bump to MS65. I won it in a Great Collections auction a couple years ago for just over $50 (including sales tax and delivery). As I recall, I just did a search for coins in old holders and the green labels have always been my favorite, so I threw a bid at it. Not sure I really expected to win the coin, but it's a nice representative of the type at a price I was happy to pay. I find the toning sort of neutral, and actually prefer blast white coins when it comes to Peace dollars. As some have noted, the obverse luster is a bit muted compared to the reverse, but it's a bit flashier in hand than the photo would indicate. I enjoy looking at the coin whenever I visit my bank.
A very beautiful coin . . .certainly worthy of a look at the SDB !!!!!
