METAL PORN FRIDAY. Show us the goods!

I've already shared some of the the cool 1 ounce .999 silver "commercial" bars I've gotten this week from being able to pick through an old time collection.

One thing I got in a different purchase that are a little off the beaten path are these cufflinks:

I know, I know. They're not for everyone. Kind of thing that a lot of stackers and pickers would immediately chuck into the melt bucket, right?

Thing is, these are genuine early mid-century tourist trade pieces hand made in Guadalajara, Mexico in maybe the 1950s or 1960s. They're the kind of thing you'd see on Porter Wagoner, Ray Price, or Hank Williams (or anyone suited up by Nudie Cohn), or even more modern crooners like Chris Issak wearing.

The silversmith who made them (RMS) is listed in Hogart. There are sterling and turquoise cufflinks made by this same silversmith on eBay right now that are crap compared to these, offered at $149. Another pair the owner claims were owned by Freddy Fender are $400!

Heavy-gauge sterling silver, intricate inlay, and the signature on the back is awesome (part of the reason I think they're so cool):

That's pretty cool! Which state are you in? He's local to me, I've gotten a couple of items in person. I'm glad to see him selling to other parts of the country! I hope this takes off for him.. :)

Plastic doesn't give you that rich feeling when you have a handful like clay chips, next best thing to real metal chips.

    Wiki says
The vast majority of authentic casino chips are "clay" chips but can be more accurately described as compression molded chips. Contrary to popular belief, no gaming chip going as far back as the 1950s has been 100% clay. Modern clay chips are a composition of materials more durable than clay alone.

Well thanks for the info. I didn’t know because I’m not old enough to gamble. :)

I have a small collection of the clay chips...with the silver center. I favor the Carson City casino chips... same reason I like the CC Morgans I guess ;) Cheers, RickO

I’m a few hours early for Friday, although it is already Friday further east. Picked this up this week from the LCS, I try to add bars I don’t have just because it’s different and stacking the same old stuff gets boring.

Because of a pic of a muppet in the locked caucus thread.

Nice looking RCM bar....though the Engelhard 5 oz. bar in the earlier thread is interesting for the opposite reason... one is a 'crude' pour and this one is professionally 'coined'...Cheers, RickO

Added this today, continuing to sell some of my raw coins, LCS had this, so added it to the stack.

I picked up something that I would call precious metal.. I'm reluctant to post it as others may find it offensive... Maybe if I post it with gold it would be okay??? XXXX, gold, and grub??

    Good eye. Yes, that's the FN Five-seveN, a G21 Gen4 (.45 Auto), and the M70 AB2 for backup.

Look at the Mossberg 590 Shockwave for home defense... I have tested it in all manner of scenarios and find it to be the best home defense... Loaded with Aguila 1 3/4 inch shells it is easy to manage and handles very well. Cheers, RickO

Did you mean 2 3/4 inch shells?

Love the shockwave.. I got this before that came out:

May have to get me a shockwave too :)

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@PerryHall ....No... 1 3/4 Aguila shells... Federal makes them now as well. They are ideal for the short shotguns....less recoil, more shells....and awesome for home defense. Cheers, RickO

I never knew that shot gun shells came that small. Will they work in any 12ga pump shotgun?

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@PerryHall....No, not all shotguns...and for the Shockwave, there is a plastic insert called the Opsol which simply snaps in place in the loading gate, and they work smoothly. I think (have not checked it personally, but have been told) the new Remington short shotgun will handle the 1 3/4 shells without the insert. I have the Shockwave and it works flawlessly....have cycled rapidly through a full load (just pumping them out rapidly) without shooting to see how fast I could go...no problems. I also, of course, have done full loads firing the shells. Not a single hang up. Cheers, RickO

@topstuf ....That looks like an S&W Model 29... They usually had Goncalo Alves grips though...Very nice. Cheers, RickO
