I am not a collector of error coins. I bought this coin sometime in the 1980s. Guess it was just an impulse buy.
I was just curious about what would have caused this off center strike. And, if it is a common error.
Thank you.

The coin was not centered in the press when it was struck.
Off center strike worth about $15 - $20
....and Dave is still around - doing a few of the
major shows, and some others.
Great guy -
(the unstuck planchet was not properly seated
in the collar when the Dies came together to
strike a coin)
Thank you all very much. Appreciate your expert opinions!
Nice example of an off center strike....Cheers, RickO
That’s a cool looking off-center @CoinHoarder.
Maybe it’s the flip but it looks like the quarter has a pretty thick bulge (reverse from ~9-12). How much thicker is it in comparison to the opposite edge?
Yes, it does look slightly thicker in that area. But not much. Also, that area shows a copper coloring on the edge, whereas the other side shows a dark looking edge.
nice coin. its still nice to see them around
Nice looking off-center.
Nice error coin!
