What causes this toning pattern?

I’ve seen this toning pattern on several bust halves, it reminds me of textile toning seen on Morgan dollars. Anyone know what causes this type of pattern? It almost looks like a fingerprint, could a oily fingerprint on say a freshly dipped coin cause this?

Fingerprints and an old Manilla envelope.
I’m all in on finger prints lol Did you give it a dip? Then arrived the fingerprints
Haha, no, not my coin. Was just looking at it, and was curious.
Fingerprints...just to make it unanimous.
I also believe these are finger and/or palm prints and that they were most likely obtained after having the coin spiffed up a bit and then handled.

I disagree with all of you! It's a thumb print.
Send it to the NFF for scanning and identification... Not likely they would do that...but it would be interesting.... actually, it does not look like there is enough detail to identify it....Cheers, RickO
