Will this 1894-O Barber Dime straight grade at our host?

I recently bought this 1894-O barber dime at my LCS for $2. When I got home, I realized it is a rarer date. Would the black stuff on the obverse keep it from straight grading? Is the reverse cleaned and the front corroded? Thanks.

    Great buy for $2!
I would be happy with that......
Not likely to straight grade and even if it would the slabbing fees on this coin would not make sense.

The stains or uneven toning probably won't keep it from straight grading. The obverse scratch might, though the photos might exaggerate it.

If it straight-graded as an unappealing VF20 it might be worth $100 or less. I don't think having it graded would be worth it.

    Plus:
It is nice to take the coin out of the holder for pictures, to be able to see them clearly

I vote no environmental damage. If I see what I think I see and we are seeing the same thing in the 2nd picture. I believe what appears to be a scratch is the cellophane on the holder.

    Terrific buy for 2 bucks!

    Looking good.

Pic out of the flip would be great! And you’ll have before pics if you plan on doing anything else with it.

It would be nice, as suggested above, to see a better picture, out of the flip....If that is indeed a scratch on the obverse, it may not straight grade... the stains or tarnish will not prevent grading. Cheers, RickO

Even a Fine 12 brought, in a PCGS holder, $156 at HA last October. I am not sure I would not have it graded if its not a scratch on the reverse. If it is it will not straight grade. I would not have it graded, but a VERY nice pickup for $2 bucks either way!

No. It should not straight grade since it is a problem coin.

Get back to your LCS and see what other bargains they have. Btw not worth grading, but a great $2 deal!
    Congrats

The lcs dealer had to have some very specific idea why he let it go for so little. These photos do not convey what is going on here. There is no Santa Claus in Numismatics.

I believe it is because I bought around a dozen barber quarters and a dozen barber dimes. He usually looks up the dates in greysheet to see if I picked out any rare dates but he was very busy so he didn’t.
