Make some more dollar coins! Need some CC coins of this century
TurtleCat Gold Dollars
I believe it was decided a year or two ago to limit the size of “coins” being produced from the Carson City Coin Press #1 to 50 cent size due to concern regarding damaging the press.
Small dollar coins!
I think they should go HUGE.
How cool would it be to have the U.S. Mint commission the limited minting of legal tender CC coins under their supervision at the CC mint? I know that's a ridiculous stretch but I would be neat.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Very good!
Thanks @BackroadJunkie!
A mint, proof and silver set with the CC mint mark....limited editions, 30,000 sets each... My suggestion, so I get a complimentary three sets.... You guys can fight over the remaining 29,999 sets of each type. Cheers, RickO
Well, in that case produce a 2020 Seated Liberty CC half dollar

Let's hope they don't get any more ideas about making more limited edition "made for collector" coins.
Might have to depend on a Dan Carr overstrike for that one.

"Medallions," really? How lame.
There is a bill in the House for a Morgan and Peace dollar to be minted in 2021. The Morgan dollar is to be minted at Carson City with a press brought in from San Francisco or Denver to do the Carson City Dollars. The Morgan Dollar will carry a CC mint mark if the legislation is passed by Congress.

More junk!
Thanks for the link. For those who have not read the linked article, it describes the relatively recent decision to no longer produce dollar sized "coins" using Coin Press #1 including the reasons for same.
I can't believe the mint doesn't have the capability to operate that press so it can make dollars. Just do it. Peace Roy

It's dead. It was sent to committee to die - with only 25 co-sponsors it's never going to see the light of day again. Besides the 2 commem programs for 2021 are already spoken for.

Such a shame. It’s a minor thing, of course, but you’d think the mint would be all over this after the centennial gold coins a few years ago. Although I wish they used 90% coin gold for those and make them closer in diameter to the real coins.

I'll be there and give a report back. Looks like a lot of hurry up and waiting.
CC
It's not the mint - it's Congress. They passed a law limiting commemorative programs to two a year and those two slots are taken up now.

In August last year the Nevada State Museum struck replicas of an 1870 CC Seated Liberty Half Dollar in .999 Nevada Silver on press No. 1.
See the attached Carson City Mint history.
Yes, I bought one.

February 4, 2020
CARSON CITY, NV – United States Mint Director David J. Ryder today joined officials of the state of Nevada and representatives of the Nevada State Museum to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first coin produced at the Carson City Mint.
Director Ryder reflected on the facility’s legacy: “The Carson City Mint holds a special place in the United States Mint’s history. Some of our most beautiful coins were produced here, including the iconic Morgan Silver Dollar, which is still popular with collectors today. I am proud to acknowledge the people who worked here and the important role the facility played in the community.”
An Act of Congress established the Carson City Mint in 1863 to address the coinage needs brought about by the discovery of the Comstock Lode. The facility operated from 1870 to 1899 and produced gold and silver coins, including dimes, twenty-cent pieces, quarters, half dollars, Trade dollars, Morgan dollars, five-dollar gold pieces, ten-dollar gold pieces, and twenty-dollar gold pieces. From 1899 to 1933, the building served as a United States Assay Office for gold and silver. The building was sold to the state of Nevada in 1939.
Ryder joined Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and Lt. Governor Kate Marshall, Congressman Mark Amodei, State Treasurer Zach Conine, Mayor Robert Crowell, Nevada State Museum Director Myron Freedman, and History Curator Robert Nylen to celebrate this milestone.
The event kicked off with the symbolic opening of the historic front doors of the Carson City Mint and the ringing of the Mint Bell by Director Ryder. Additional highlights included the ceremonial striking of a Nevada State Museum .999 fine silver medallion on the historic Coin Press 1, which struck the first “CC” mint mark coin in 1870. A lecture program, buffet lunch reception, and cake cutting rounded out the celebration.
