Deion is a moron. The types of players he is talking about come once a decade at best. There would be 42 guys in the HOF right now …. IF THAT MANY ... if that was the case.

There would be nothing wrong with only 42 players in the NFL Hall of Fame. In fact i would prefer it to be that way or whatever is the number of truly great players.

I remember Phil Simms once said, that if Tom Brady had retired in 2006, he would have went into the hall of fame because of the 3 super bowls he had won up to that point.

I just watched the helmet catch for the first time since that day. I had gone all this time unable to watch it. Still painful.

To this day, every time I see that play I tell my self that THIS time..... he’s gonna go down.

Play for the ages it was

He took down my team with 2 clutch 4th quarter comebacks. He is a HOFer, not sure 1st ballot, but he gets in at some point.

  • sayheywyosayheywyo Posts: 500 ✭✭✭✭

Agree. HOFer, but maybe not 1st ballot. Namath and that guy named Francis are in. Heck, the Hall elected a guy named Yelberton Abraham.

    Deion says it best:

"Honestly, I'm not so sure what being a Hall of Famer means anymore. Football immortality used to be reserved for players who redefined their position, made a big impact on the game or dominated their position for a period of time. The way the Hall is trending now, Eli will get in most likely because he won two Super Bowls. It won't be because he embodied any of those three points while in the league."

It could be a two part question:

    1. Will Eli get into the Hall of Fame? The correct answer is Yes, really not at all debatable.

    2. Would Eli get into a "Hall of Fame" that is reserved only for the greatest and not just excellent players? A Hall of Fame that i happen to agree the way it should be, reserved for only the greatest. The correct answer is No.

It's not remotely debatable that Eli was an excellent player, but by no means a "great" player.

It's like the marines always say when they are mired in combat and in dire circumstances and thoughts from the troops are they sure wish they weren't there. But the leader says that "We can't refuse to accept the situation" and moves ahead.

No sense in refusing to accept the situation that the Hall of Fames are watered down, and it's likely to continue. It is what it is - Eli gets in and the haters can't refuse to accept the situation that it's 100% certain.

The only debatable hypothetical point would be should Eli get into a "greatest only" Hall of Fame? I say No. However with two Super Bowl rings and two Super Bowl MVP's, i could understand the point of view of those who would say Yes. And it wouldn't bother me all that much if he did get into that Hall of Fame because of those two remarkable achievements, plus the other things already mentioned in the thread.

Nice dissertation. Yes Eli belongs in the HOF since others have made it in, however nobody in their right mind or who knows anything about Football would ever say that Eli would be in the top 20 Best Ever QB’s. Or that he ever stood out amongst his peers as Elite

True, but he got the job done more often than not. And I'm not a Eli fan and I hate the Giants. Eli is a HOF lock.

Yea I agree he is a lock. All I’m saying is he was never the best QB in the league or in the top tier amongst his peers

Barely made the top 10 in most categories.

Yet some homer who knows nothing about Football “Lol”’s both my posts without being smart enough to respond 🤷‍♂️

lol love you too Paul. He’s a lock shoe in HOF’er. No matter what you comedians belch out :) At the end of the day there are people that still insist the Earth is flat too.

I didn’t know it was you Dan, honestly I can’t imagine you arguing what I’m saying about him though. Really you can’t show me where he was the best QB or ever an elite QB no matter how funny you think I’m being 🍻

Definitely a tier 1 QB for many years. Definitely not latter years. I wouldn’t argue about best ever because those words never came from my lips and he certainly wasn’t. HOF’er? Absolutely without question

As I never said he wasnt bud 🍻
