I bought edition 4 as my first book when I dove back into collecting 18 months ago. It was a right decision. This book seems to contain all the same info/photos from the other Whitman books -- info on history, collecting strategy, photo grading, photos of significant varieties, etc. Obviously the price charts go a bit stale, yet, it's the best all-in-one reference book I've found so far.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
Wow... Fifth Edition... already.... How fast the years go....I must be having a LOT of fun... I am still using the First Edition... guess I better get current....I sure do use it often...Cheers, RickO

I believe the Fifth Edition came out last Spring. My guess is the sixth edition (2021) will be out in a few months.
I purchase and keep every one, since each edition has its own LENGTHY detailed section on a separate subset of coins. Makes for a great reference!
