Cent Bag Guys

I just completed a search of a mint bag of 1973 cents.. Of the 5000 coins I pulled out the 10 best, nice coins in this bag. Anyway here is my question.... Upon placing the cents into 2 x 2's I notice I had a cent with a rotated reverse of about 10%. I then found 4 more from the best of the best coin I placed to the side but did not use. If I go back through the bag would I find rotations greater than 10% ? Let's say 30% or 60% or 90 % or nothing more than 10% ..... Any ideas if the bag will hold better rotated coins? What do you guys say?

Thanks ahead of time for your help .. Jim

You never know what you can find. I find that the rotated reverse cent in the seventies at about 10% rotated quite often. I would imagine higher degrees of rotation are out in the wild also.

If you have the time go through it. You may not find any more than you did, but you may find something. Never know.

Think about it. A rotated die is, literally, a rotated die. It shouldn't be spinning around randomly. It should be striking 10% off and only 10% off until someone fixes the alignment.

No premium for 10%. But 90% and you got a winner, maybe even 45%+. Lot of work and I wouldn't do it but if you have the time, by all means go for it. That is how killer error coins are found. Somebody has to do the work.

Sounds like a lot of work and fun!

    Keep on keep on!

    Good luck in your hunt!

Ten percent is not much and really not of value... As stated above, get to forty percent and above, and you then get some collector interest. Researching that bag will be tedious and likely not rewarding - That being said, you will not know unless you do it. In the future, make it part of your search process, to check each one....Cheers, RickO

Is this search really worth the time involved and the eye strain?

    All glory is fleeting.

I still enjoy the hunt on things like this... but have to admit the eye strain is beginning to limit my time that I do so!

As others have said, a 10% rotation doesn't add any value to the coin.

Since you're not going to make any money, you need to decide if the thrill of the hunt is worth the work. Nothing wrong if you want to go through them again and nothing wrong if you decide to say the heck with it. Your choice. Do what you like.
