1911 10c old ANACS AU58 (old white holder), 1915-D 25c NGC XF45 (fatty)
These are the highest grade Barber pieces I've ever owned.
I'm dipping my toes in the water before committing to anything big and I gotta say experiencing this series in high grades is a whole new world of beauty.
I really like the dime. I'd been watching it for weeks and finally the price dropped to double digits. Old white ANACS holder. The reverse sealed the deal for me. What a lovely design, and the color making the leaves pop like that is just fantastic. Almost adds another visual dimension, I think is the way to convey that? Anyway.
The XF45, I think, is a very nice xf45. Everything important is there; unobstructed stars sold me, I wish the wings were a little more feathered but that's okay, they're still pretty great and sharp. I'm very happy with it all around. The shield lines are fantastic. I like that it's still nice enough for the last tiny little bit of feathers at the bottom of the tail to have detail. It doesn't have to have color to be a nice piece, and neither coins are so riddled with chatter that they distract from the design.
I also like the fields on both. That was the source of many dealbreakers on some fairly nice pieces.
I really can't wait to see them in hand.

My opinion, based on the photos: The dime is just OK (probably dipped and retoned) but the 15-D quarter is overgraded. It was also probably dipped at one time.
I agree with the above post. The dime also appears to have a toned over scratch through the neck up into the hair.

Is the quarter overgraded because of the obverse wear on the cap and LIBERTY?
I don't think most folks would call the NGC Barber quarter a fatty, it is of a generation later than those holders. The dime may be okay, but the quarter has absolutely been given a bath. You may like it and lots of other folks may like it, but that isn't a look I would place in my collection.

Perhaps I missed something in the OP? I saw a display of two coins (nice collector pieces), and then a superb collector explanation of why he (or she) enjoyed them. I went back over the post again carefully. Was there a GTG? A question about originality? I was thoroughly enthused with a very basic appreciation of the two pieces, and then saw a few views of grade, condition, etc. (I agree with the above views, by the way -- the posters are giving prescient comments.)
You have the views of fairly esteemed Board members above . . . . but I love your enthusiasm. It is why we collect . . . .the chance to just take a piece of byegone history, look at how it may have circulated a bit, Maybe wonder at how they have survived in such good shape (?). Nuances . . . . toning . . . . the parts you like about the coins and those parts that are less exciting. Keep it up!
Good pix . . . .good analysis . . . .good post. I see no reason why our Forum should not be inundated with these types of posts. True numismatists . . . with true coins . . . .displaying true feelings . . . .
Bravo.

Too much wear on both obverse and reverse to obtain an XF45 grade from me. I don't even like it at XF40.
Great post.
Nice coins.... and I like the quarter at XF45...I like the collectors description of his new coins and why he likes them. Cheers, RickO
Dime looks great, quarter looks a little overgraded.

Nice coins thanks for sharing.
That’s not an NGC fatty.
I like the dime.
Quarter looks too “untoned” to me and has a cleaned look.
I like the 15 D quarter a lot
