Home Burglary near Nashville while dealer friends were at FUN!

ThePennyLadyThePennyLady Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭✭✭

My good friend Cindi and her boyfriend Steve (she and Steve are in photos in my FUN show report) had their home near Nashville burglarized while they attended the FUN show. Here are the details given to me from Cindi:

Just moved to Tennessee and the house where the burglary happened is in Franklin, TN area (30 miles south of Nashville). List has been given to Williamson County PD & Sheriff, D.Davis, J.Sego, and in the process of contacting TN dealers to get the word out. APPRECIATE ALL HELP!!! There are suspects and have known ties to Franklin, Leiper's Fork, Brentwood, Fairview, Nashville, Murfeesburo, Jackson & Memphis areas. Not sure how to post the list but here is the overview.
COINS: 1908 $20 gold - no motto MS62 ANACS,
1886-S $5 gold EF45 cleaned ANACS,
1879-CC Morgan Cap Die VF ANACS,
1923 Peace MS65 + CAC Top Pop NGC, 1902-O Morgan DDO HL40 MS63 NGC, 25+ more slabbed PCGS, NGC & ANACS (mostly) in various denominations,
35+ RAW Morgan & Peace in various common dates in VF- BU, 40+ ANACS samples with Texas $.25 and all same labels with "The Coin eXpo, St. Charles, MO, Nov 7-9,2019" (I work for ANACS and there goes show samples for St.Louis next month - so sorry). ** All slabbed coins and samples were in white cardboard slotted boxes and raw coins were in flips on velvet trays.

275+ Mint & Proof sets - all dates 1968-2015 including 2014/2015 Mint $1 sets and 1999 Silver Pr state qutr sets. 2/3 of sets were in 6 black dble row boxes, inside silver metal case with handle & combo lock. 1/3 of sets were in square USPS box

CURRENCY: 1922 $20 Large Note MS63,
1776 Continental Currency,
1934a $20 Hawaii Note WWII Emergency Note,
$100 Reserve Note, $5 Blue Seal Notes,
3/ $1 FRN consecutive serial #'s ** Each currency piece in in currency flip and 1922 is graded

GUN: Ruger 357 'handgun with black handle and black holster case. (gun is locked / they didn't get the key)

Thankfully everything wasn't stolen and they were interested in the quantity (ie: mint & proof sets) We are still discovering missing items - some foreign, etc. We do not believe person(s) have true knowledge of coins and may try to just get cash. There is 1 suspect that we know likes to be "important" in the Leiper's Fork / Franklin area and may try to show off "his collection". If you have any information, please contact Det. Keen at Williamson County PD 615-790-5554, Doug Davis Doug@numismaticcrimes.org, or Cindi Snow-Ray / Steve Cummings at 931-922-6480 uscoinology@gmail.com.
Thank You, Thank You......Much Appreciation for your help!!!

That’s a haul! I hope they catch the demons from hell that did this.

I have been done this way and the one that stole it couldn't get the local convenience store to cash them for him, they thought he was trying to pass counterfeit money to them. There was a guy there that paid him $.25 on the dollar for it all. Moral of story, go to local convenience stores and tell them. The ones that broke in, may not know what they have. And I sincerely hope they catch them!

I don't know this to be the case and either way it is too late for the people involved. But....NEVER....NEVER, post on Facebook etc., your travel plans. And DO NOT post on social media updates and photos of your vacation while you are on vacation. Remind the ladies. The bad guys never sleep.

Good advice! I know a guy that posts pictures and where he was at after he gets home.

If not much more than the coins and currency were stolen, it looks like the burglar(s) knew what to look for.
Hope they get their valuables back.

FYI, not sure what makes you think they posted their plans on social media, but neither Cindi nor Steve participate in much social media, and they did NOT post anything about their plans anywhere.

If they are known dealers, they could be a target.

Might be worthwhile to lock up all coins in the SDB while at a known multi-day event for dealers.

Bill, I might be persuaded to cop a plea if I knew what or who FB is. But I don't. So I won't.

    Thanks @ThePennyLady for the info.

Based upon the info it appears there were cameras installed or an eye witness.

Though I do hope all the items are found I really want that firearm recovered.

Did they bypass the alarm system? Did they crack open a safe?

Hope that these folks get their valuable back.

Have been winding down my social media exposure as security issues are legitimate, though it appears that this is not the case here.

Very sad ... and upsetting.... I certainly hope the material is recovered...and, while I have no idea what type of security was at the home, I would recommend an professional assessment and upgrade in the future. Cheers, RickO

    Very, very sad! Dang it.

Franklin is a beautiful, and historic town. I visited last summer. Wonderful area.

Bummer! Will keep my eyes open for these items.
