Wonder if Yu Darvish can sue them for damages based in his WS performance when they were stealing signs. Probably cost him at least $20MM on his next deal. Glad they are giving a serious punishment. Last time when the Cardinals hacked a computer system the punishment was laughable.

A $5 million dollar fine. The Astros can cover that in hot dog fees.

Owner Crane said the organization needed a fresh start. So they should also trade Roberto Osuna, non-convicted but MLB penalized wife beater, asap!!

Agree it's not much but I read that it was the maximum allowed under the rules.

Not trying to be snide. I wholeheartedly agree with the thread. I was trying to inject a little humour by linking the Astros firings with the recent matters on trimming/altering cards. Sorry you have misinterpreted my intentions. Certainly not trying rile people up.

Alex Cora and the Red Sox are next. Cora was a bench coach in Houston during the scandal and was involved in the sign stealing and brought it to Boston.

They should void out the world series titles of both the Astros and Red Sox for the cheating scandal. I would rather have no winner than a cheater.

Q: How do you know when the Astros are cheating?

A: They have the lead in a game.

The best part of this scandal is the way the Nationals beat them in Game 7 of the World Series. Sean Dolittle was interviewed in December following the World Series and stated that the Nationals went into Game 7 with SIX sets of signs for the game!

If MLB and owners acted this effectively and quickly during the steroids era, Aaron and Maris would still have their records. Big “*” besides their two championships, IMO.

MLB won't take away the Astros and Red Sox championships, but they should.

MLB warned every organizaion to stop this type of behavior. However, these 2 teams kept going. To me, this is inexcusable.

Part of Red Sox statement on Cora:

We collectively decided that it would not be possible for Alex to effectively lead the club going forward and we mutually agreed to part ways. This is a sad day for us. Alex is a special person and a beloved member of the Red Sox. We are grateful for his impact on our franchise.

    Special person?
Grateful for his impact on franchise? (Yes, I understand they won in 2018)

Cora is a fool. Not very bright in the common sense bucket. Just like Rose wasn't in the gambling bucket. The 'Sox WS championship in '18 could be tainted meat as well. Let's see what MLB's investigation of the Red Sox does or doesn't turn up.

You are correct BUT the court of public opinion will be too much for the Mets to keep him as manager. He was the only player named in the investigation of the Astros. That means he was part of concocting the scheme.

Agree. MLB couldn't do much to the players themselves because they are protected by the MLBPA, front office employees and coaches are not. Plus if the players knew they could be punished, they wouldn't give up so much information on the scheme. So by giving them immunity in a way, MLB was able to get a lot more information.

Totally agree that he should be fired by the Mets. I just suspect that it is too close to pitchers and catchers reporting for Spring Training and the Mets don't do it.

Can you imagine the NY media scrutiny if he somehow stays? It's tough enough there as it is.

Has there ever been a time in the modern era that 3 managers were gone this quickly before the season? Obviously this is a different circumstance than most years so it is not likely.

Mind blowing when you think about the impact this situation could have to MLB. Many execs and players are not happy for various reasons. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Jose Altuve has been accused of wearing a buzzer under his jersey during some of his biggest home runs in the post season. The buzzer allegedly tipped him off about what pitches to expect. This scandal just continues to get more bizarre.

Altuve holds onto jersey for dear life after 2017 pennant winning HR and then ran directly into dugout tunnel. Asked teammates not to pull off jersey.

Cause for suspicion or much ado about nothing? Mlb says no, but they don't seem to have a clue as to what is going on in their game. More to come I'm sure.
