Cracked Case, Quality Coin, Even Trade?

Well, I was able to trade a $20 Liberty for another $20 Liberty at FUN this week. The coin I traded was an 1857p $20 Lib. AU53 NGC holder vs. the below piece that is a nice quality coin for the grade, with a Green Bean, but there’s just one (or two) problems... the case is badly cracked (which I knew when trading) and the grade is lower than my other... but, however I gained a civil war date...
Did I upgrade or downgrade? What are thoughts on the trade? Should I have done it, and what would you do on the cracked case?

I see a coin that is going to cost more money to make it marketable. The damage to the slab is a major negative.
I have no idea what the other coin looked like so no comment can be made on whether it was a good trade. My guess is that the trading dealer was happy to be rid of the problem holder.
As long as you feel it was a good trade I see no problem with the choice you made.
Your newer coin is very attractive and original. Now just get it reholdered. and enjoy it. I wouldn't bother to go through the expense and bother to get a new green sticker on the new slab since the cert number can be looked up on the CAC web site.

The coin is vary cool and that is all that matters, plus you can have it re-slayed if you ever chose to send it in to pcgs
You had your reasons for the trade.... so that means you consider that you did well. That is what matters.... Have it re-slabbed and enjoy it. Cheers, RickO
See above for the coin I traded... AU53 NGC
AU53 seems generous. I'd take the 1865-S even though reholdering would be necessary.
I think you be happy once it is in a new holder

I am not a fan of the one you got rid of. The new one is...... hard to tell, but I think it's just the photos. It seems more wholesome to me.
The 65-S is definitely more DOGgy (Dirty Old Gold, not the canine pejorative), but needs to be reholdered. Get it done at a show and save the shipping.

Will PCGS include the "Granite Lady Hoard" designation on the new holder?

They should, unless you crack it out. Just get it to them as is.
You definitely made the right call Leeroy.... 65 looks awesome!
That's a trade I would have made.
I like the newp better.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Old coin ... yuk.
New coin ... yum.

No Brainer trade IMHO.
I don't see why pcgs wouldn't just transfer all the info to a new holder, UNLESS it still says copy under the neckline
You did well....
Good trade.
Yes, reholder the 65-S. Easy.
If you can't neatly peel off the CAC sticker and reapply it afterwards (I've done it but it's tricky) then send it to CAC for a cheap resticker.
Lance.
You did well.
