Interesting Exonumia Design - Trial error or by design?

Picked this up a couple decades ago

24.9 Grams

Has anyone seen one of these before?

That's a great medal! I'm guessing it's done intentionally as the way it is shows the jet flying "northwest" to Florida. I've never seen one before. I wonder how many of these are out there. The "Fly Northwest" side seems like it should be paired with a FUN die ;)

That makes sense, and a great observation by you.

    Thank you!

I wonder if they were ever issued to the public? I have never seen one before.

    All glory is fleeting.

Interesting piece of exonumia.... I have not seen one before... and used to fly extensively when in business...As a patron of several airlines (Northwest being one) I would have picked up such pieces then....Cheers, RickO

That was a Northwest Orient print & TV ad campaign that ran in MSP and DTW fairly soon after they introduced DC-10s on their FL routes from those cities (pre-hubbing & pre-Republic merger I believe - early 1970's?). The medal certainly isn't rare -- I believe that they were included in the press PR kits and given to passengers during the first few weeks or months of service. Most airline and general transportation topical collections that I've purchased contain at least one. They show up.
